Talk:Anti-Magic Warrior (5e Subclass)
My ideas with this subclass[edit]
While designing the features, i was concerned that a antimagic fighter would have nothing useful against non spell casters, and that the only thing he could against spellcasters would be nullify their magic. So, this is what was in my mind when writing the following features:
*Arcane Savant: I feel that the knowledge of magic is vital for a character suposed to hunt magic users. Funny enough, because spellcasters doesn't usually have expertise in arcana, he probably understand magic better than them, although is not able to use magic.
*Break Concentration: This was my way of working around the problem of facing non spellcasters. An ability that is intended to foil anything but an weapon attack. The idea is that, if this fighter doesn't know what a enemy is doing, he will does not allow. And weapon attacks are more obvious to discern, so he is not focusing to much attention on them. Is not so dangerous as a fireball. And, mechanically speaking, the fighter can foil many monsters special abilities that are "magical" but not "magic".
*Arcane Sight: Basically, access to a more versatile and strong version of detect magic, with limited uses. This have two functions: first, complete the theme, because, up to now, this fighter can fight magic, but cannot hunt magic, unless it is obvious. And second, as a way to make the most out of the Mana Burn feature. I'll probably lower this down to the 3rd level.
*Magic Breaker: This make the antimagic warrior a better counter-speller than the bard, but with far lower frequency.
*Nullify Magic: Just a more uses for the core feature.
*Mana Burn: This is my favorite feature. A smite attack that uses your enemy spell slots against them. Used with the Arcane Sight, a player can make sure to target a specific enemy.
*Beholder's Eye: Looking for ideas of abilities on the PHB, i've remembered, while looking the "antimagic field" spell, that beholders have that permanent antimagic eye. So, i give a weaker version of the spell for the fighter, which also links to the "Arcane Sight". Anastacio (talk) 20:24, 10 May 2020 (MDT)
