Talk:Acrobat's Staff (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Back when Mike Mearls was working on a 5e Acrobat subclass based off the original 2nd edition class, he lamented not being able to incorporate a way to make staff fighting an option for rogues, because players would want to be like Diana, the most well known Acrobat in DnD. So here's a staff that's a finesse weapon. Simple and elegant. Thewordywarlock (talk) 02:05, 21 June 2018 (MDT)
- With finesse, the quarterstaff is very good for a simple weapon — too much damage, especially compared to the only finesse simple weapon in the SRD. For the sake of balance, I believe either the staff's damage dice should be reduced one step, or it should become a martial weapon that rogues happen to be proficient with.
- I don't imagine it would have been difficult to make a roguish archetype that can treat a quarterstaff as a finesse weapon... I guess Mearls was particularly concerned about 1st and 2nd level. - Guy (talk) 05:57, 21 June 2018 (MDT)
- Fair enough. And it was just that such an oddly specific feature felt really out of place with the movement-oriented kit he was working with. Thewordywarlock (talk) 07:23, 21 June 2018 (MDT)
