Talk:8-Bit Black Mage (3.5e Prestige Class)

Class Type[edit]

This should be a base class, and the 8-Bit Black Wizard should be a prestige class. —Sledged (talk) 13:00, 14 March 2008 (MDT)

Hadoken Adjustment[edit]

I have adjusted Hadoken to something more reasonable, although it is still quite powerful. Consider adjusting your ratings accordingly. -- Jota 18:13, 25 June 2009 (MDT)

Rating[edit]

Power - 0/5 I give this class a 0 out of 5 because once you get hadoken, you can 1 shot everything D&D has to offer once per day(40,000 damage max at level 40),a fact that makes it so no DM in their right mind would allow the class to be made. The level 30 ability is pretty much a double K.O ability since the Int check is so high it's almost impossible to succeed and deals 1,500 damage to yourself. I'd lower the damage for Hadoken and the level 30 ability by quite a bit,30d12 would be better for Hadoken,so it wouldn't be made redundent due to the damage dealt by spells such as Horrid Wilting. As for the final 8-bit Black Wizard ability,I'd lower the damage and the save check so it doesn't spell instant death for the PC and the target. --Vahn 19:20, 18 May 2008 (MDT)

Rating[edit]

0/5. i agree with Vahn (above). the Hadoken is too powerful. if you would decreast the damage by down to maby 10XCL or even less than that and make it kind of like the warlocks eldritch blast it would be cool. you also didn't explane the Spontanious Mastery thing very well. -Tyraxor 21:17, 7 October 2008 (MDT)

Rating[edit]

5/5, just for the awesomeness. Hadoken is over the top but it made me grin, so kudos to you. 2d6/character level, maybe? Genowhirl 17:29, 16 November 2008 (MST)

Power - 0/5 The class is alright up to level 10, Hadoken is overpowered to the point of insanity. --Lord Dhazriel 12:26, 11 February 2009 (MST)

Wording - 4/5 Nearly perfect, some mechanic may need some rework however. --Lord Dhazriel 12:26, 11 February 2009 (MST)

Formatting - 3/5 There some missing section on the page, like 8-bit Black Mage's lore. --Lord Dhazriel 12:26, 11 February 2009 (MST)

Flavor - 4/5 While im not a fan of the webcomic I do believe the flavor is mostly intact. The class is interesting. --Lord Dhazriel 12:26, 11 February 2009 (MST)

Power - 4.5/5 I give this class a 4.5 out of 5 because although it seems to be a very useful tool, it doesn't do too much that could be considered overpowered. Hadoken deals damage about equal to disintegrate except in a much larger area. Wheel Walker may be a bit troublesome, however, as it has a 66% chance of dealing 2000 damage at level 30, twice the damage that crown of vermin deals. While it doesn't seem all too powerful until then, it seems to have the perfect power level fro what it does.

Wording - 5/5 I give this class a 5 out of 5 because I noticed no particular errors.

Formatting - 4.5/5 I give this class a 4.5 out of 5 because it seems pretty well created but the epic levels seem a bit odd to me. Putting aside the fact that this is the only prestige class to evolve after completion (completely in flavor with 8-bit theatre), the evolved form gains 10 abilities over ten levels but still possesses three dead levels. I'd think that it would look better if the abilities were more evenly spaced to prevent this.

Flavor - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because getting it perfectly would be impossible. I'm impressed as to how you compensated for the lack of vancian magic in 8-bit theatre by making this class open to both spontaneous and prepared casters. As we don't know much about black-magery as a profession, I think that you did about as well as you could hope to do. One note, however, is that the black mage seems capable of using Hadoken from very early on in the actual comic strip, something not accounted for by this class.

Rating[edit]

Power - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because the abilities are better balanced than a lot of published WoTC prestige classes.

Rating[edit]

Power - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because given the right abilities and layout, this class can be devastating --184.77.156.221 14:50, 19 January 2013 (MST)

Wording - 5/5 I give this class a 5 out of 5 because everything in wording is easy to understand and cleverly worded. --184.77.156.221 14:50, 19 January 2013 (MST)

Formatting - 5/5 I give this class a 5 out of 5 because...well...it's works. --184.77.156.221 14:50, 19 January 2013 (MST)

Flavor - 5/5 I give this class a 5 out of 5 because of two reasons. One, I love magic induced classes and, two, the black mage is my favorite class. --184.77.156.221 14:50, 19 January 2013 (MST)
