- Support. Makes me think of the trope, the inexperienced ruler. Well made, even though the trope could be made more prominent. --Green Dragon (talk) 08:45, 17 December 2019 (MST)
- Oppose — I do not feel like this background is broadly applicable, and this background's lore is a bit lacking. It isn't bad, but I don't believe it fits as a quality article.--Blobby383b (talk) 15:25, 1 December 2021 (MST)
- Oppose — I am opposed to specifically the "Loyal Follower" alternate feature. First off, this is granting you a combat-capable NPC companion. No other background feature does this. The closest they come is the Noble's variant feature of Retainers, which grants you three commoner NPCs that will not fight for you or follow you into obviously dangerous areas, and will leave if frequently endangered or abused. That's what a ruler who has NOT been exiled can get. Second, backgrounds are taken at first level, so it makes no sense to assign a benefit that is stronger if you are of a higher level, unless it somehow improves over time, which, again, no other background feature does. Someone who starts a campaign as a level 1 Exiled Noble, and grows to level 10 or 12 through adventuring, is still stuck with their CR 1 follower, while an Exiled Noble who entered the campaign at level 10 or 12 would be able to take CR 2 or 3 followers instead... not that a CR 2 or 3 NPC is much help at those levels. This does not make sense. Frankly, it would be better to simply have one of the other party members serve the role of this loyal follower in the player's backstory, rather than handing the player a second combat unit to command. --Kappatechy (talk) 23:56, 16 February 2023 (MST)
- Oppose: I second the opinions voiced above about the background's lack of fluff and the alternate feature being far too good compared to something like the official knight's squire. The fluff at the beginning is a lot of questions, but it could do with some more development and writing on scenarios that lead to the queries.--Yanied (talk) 19:45, 16 December 2023 (MST)
