Starforged[edit]

The celestial bodies are shapers themselves, you know? They can fashion life, as we were once of stardust.
—Almsman Rachett, astrologist

Physical Description[edit]

The starforged are creatures born within the voids and depths of cold space, formed of stardust, meteorites, asteroids, comets... all that stuff ground up and produced into a vaguely humanoid form with vaguely biological functions. It is believed that a specific and rare meteor known as the Bio-core is responsible for this strange occurrence. This specific meteor is a central part of starforged biologies, as it binds with the inorganic parts of other celestial particles to grant life to starforged. Starforged bodies are compounds of bits of space debris, mostly stones and various bits of metals. These comprise a circular core torso that then extends appendages that form arms and legs. The unique body arrangement of starforged does not always have a very conspicuous head, and starforged are known for being able to easily shift their centers of gravity very easily, making them difficulty to knock over.

History[edit]

Starforged are formed of various materials collected from the drifting debris of space. They commonly form when comets, meteors, or other space rocks of the like, have accumulated great amounts of magic energy through their cosmic journeys. These heavenly bodies leave behind much material when destroyed, usually through impact, ranging from stones to metals. These coalesce into a juvenile starforged after many days. Starforged thus are of natural origin and are similar to elementals, rather than being artificial constructs. Their bodies are a bit of a hodgepodge due to their haphazard birth. Sometimes, many starforged can be born at once when celestial bodies collide. Throughout their lifetime, many starforged will try to grow their bodies by finding special stones or metals to add to their bodies. The materials they find are not always compatible, and so many constantly just wander around looking.

Society[edit]

Starforged do not boast a high number of race members. Celestial events like impacts from comets and meteors are met with enthusiasm that a new starforged will be spawned among them on the terra. While starforged are largely solitary, they share a strong bond with others of their race even when they are not physically grouped together. Starforged can exchange nonverbal ideas and experiences with one another through their unique cell rocks, which forms a strong connection across their entire race. Like wandering comets and such, starforged meander throughout the land without much seeming aim. They are not strongly aligned towards good nor evil. Their primary interest is experiencing the world alongside others of their own and sharing what they learn and see with their kind. Starforged tend to have an open-mind as a result.

Starforged Names[edit]

Usually, starforged name themselves after unique alloys and materials that came with the celestial pieces that give them life. There are usually two parts of their names. The former never changes while the latter can shift when starforged wish to redefine themselves. This usually happens when starforged have reached certain thresholds of growth in experiences or even swapped out much of the original materials in their bodies. The constant portion of their name is called the "core," while the changing portion is called the "shell." Core names relate to the original material that birthed the starforged, sometimes being the name of the comet or meteor if not the composition. The shell names are usually terrestrial. These names are not gendered.

Core Names: Adamantus, Cryic, Irid, Pyri

Shell Names: Diamant, Rust, Silicus, Gallius

Starforged Traits[edit]

Rotund elemental creatures formed of stardust and fragments of broken meteors and comets
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and one other score of your choice increases by 1.
Age. Starforged are able to live very long lives that seem almost immortal. They are recorded to live for as long as 100,000 years before their bodies ultimately just break apart like eroded stone. Supposedly, the celestial energies that sustain them can run out like life force... just much slower.
Alignment. Starforged usually do not tend strongly towards good or evil alignments. They do tend towards either neutrality or law, however. Chaotic starforged are not unheard of, said to embody the drifting celestial bodies that they originate from.
Size. Starforged generally stand around 4 feet tall, with a few reaching over 5 feet. They are very dense and heavy, with most weighing over 200 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Born of Stars. You are a living creature formed by stardust and space rock. Your creature type is elemental instead of humanoid. As such, you are immune to spells like crown of madness or dominate person because they specifically target humanoids. You are resistant to poison damage, and have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned and diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, and any food you do attempt to eat falls through the space where your head would be and into the bottom of your armor. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 6 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Stone Shape. While you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from a normal boulder. Also, due to your stony exterior, you have a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn't affect this number). You can't wear light, medium, or heavy armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield's bonus as normal.
Shifting Stone. You have a unique center of gravity that allows you to shift your limbs around to avoid being knocked over despite your seemingly unbalanced shape. You have advantage on saving throws to avoid being knocked prone.
Rolling Star. You can withdraw your limbs and tuck yourself in as a bonus action. While tucked like this, your base walking speed is 35 feet; you also have advantage on Constitution saving throws, have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws, and you can't take reactions. If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you deal additional damage equal to your Constitution modifier. You can un-tuck yourself as a bonus action.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
