Spite & Malice (3.5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

Spite is a +3 Fiery Burst Hand Crossbow. While being wielded by a good character, Spite is treated as having the "Holy" special ability. While being wielded by an evil character, Spite is treated as having the "Unholy" special ability. While being wielded by a neutral character, it is treated as having either special ability, but not both. A neutral character must decide which ability is currently in effect, and this cannot be changed again for 24 hours.

Malice is a +3 Icy Burst Hand Crossbow. While being wielded by a chaotic character, Malice is treated as having the "Anarchic" special ability. While being wielded by a lawful character, Malice is treated as having the "Axiomatic" special ability. While being wielded by a neutral character, it is treated as having either special ability, but not both. A neutral character must decide which ability is currently in effect, and this cannot be changed again for 24 hours.

Both Spite & Malice automatically reload themselves as an immediate action with +1 Splitting bolts. All bolts created by Spite & Malice dissipate into nothingness immediately after they strike a solid object(whether the intended target or not). It is impossible to unload either Spite or Malice in any way other than firing it. Thus, it is impossible to use any other type of ammunition.

For as long as a character holds both Spite & Malice in their hands, Spite & Malice are treated as +5 Hand Crossbows instead of +3, and they are both treated as having the Distance special ability.
