Adept Landing. The spiny takes no falling damage from heights equal to or below 50 feet.

Spiky Body. The spiny deals 3 (1d6) piercing damage upon contact (included in its Shell Toss).

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.

Shell Defense. The spiny ducks into its shell, gaining a +1 bonus to AC and resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks. In this state, the spiny can't take bonus actions except to come out of its shell. It can also take an action to use its Shell Toss, which also accompanies its movement.

Shell Toss. The spiny rapidly spins its shell before launching 30 feet in a straight line. While traveling, the spiny can bounce off of walls to continue its movement. In such a case, the spiny continues traveling in a straight line for the remainder of its movement or until it reflects off of another wall.
Creatures directly in the spiny's path must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage and 3 (1d6) piercing damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.
A spiny can only take this action while retracted into its shell via its Shell Defense feature. Another creature can shove a spiny that has retracted into its shell to immediately move it 30 feet in a straight line, as if the spiny had taken this action.

REACTIONS

Shell Defense. In response to taking damage from an attack that deals bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, the spiny can immediately use its Shell Defense.

Spinies are quadrupedal koopas somewhat similar in their appearance to buzzy beetles. Their spiked shells repel direct physical attackers and provide solid protection, though they are not immune to fire. They dwell in the clouds of lakitus, curled into a ball and emerging when thrown. While they do have a symbiotic relationship with lakitus, some spinies wander away from lakitu spots and form packs of their own. Spinies are not simple beasts despite their animalistic looks, as they are still a type of koopa. Some of them have joined Bowser's Minions, often along with the lakitus that throw them, and are used as aerial bombardment.
