The Spartus Hoplites were raised by an young half-fiend wizard, eager to prove his worth and overcome his human weakness. Once powerful enough, he used them to slay wyrm upon wyrm, raising an army of these abominations. Finally, he marched this undying army on throughout the Nine Hells, each disciplined to perfection. However, upon breaking formation, these warriors became something, frighteningly enough, more powerful. They would fly into a rage, each one leaping upon the next victim and striking them with such strength that a single blow could kill a bear. This frightening show of strength only became worse when enemies found themselves facing a cloud of bones, flung with similar fury. Finally, the strongest of demons were sent to dispatch this army, and in an epic battle almost all were slain - but the Spartoi prevailed. However, in the final moments, the wizard who created them was slain by a loose arrow, and the entire army fell into disarray. With no guidance, each warrior went on their own path, attacking various devils and demons. Today, a few remain, and those who seem vulnerable should be wary of their attacks.
