Siege Magic (5e Variant Rule)

Siege Magic[edit]

When you cast a damage-dealing spell with a casting time of 1 action, such as fireball, you may choose to cast it with a casting time of 1 minute instead. If you do so, the range of the spell is multiplied by 10 and the damage of the spell is doubled. This rule is intended to help spellcasters compete with siege machines in siege combat, such as against castles or ships, or in mass combat situations, all without meaningfully altering the balance of normal combat (where taking 10 rounds to cast a spell is a vanishingly unlikely luxury).
