Shadow Star Shinobi[edit]

Monk Subclass

The shadow star clan was created by a group of secretive assassins who worship the void. Legend says that, generations ago, a group of wandering monks, who would become the grandfathers and founders of this clan, have found a floating orb, filled with pure darkness. That well was a portal to the void, the plane of shadows. Those explorers meditated for several days, communing with the shadows, and being embraced by it, drawing from its power.

They have baptized that orb as the Shadow Star, and around it they built a structure, that works as a monastery for the worship of this eldritch phenomena, and as dojo for the training of the martial arts, and as a fortress, to hide and protect the secrets of the Shadow Star. Since those warriors are capable of bending and controlling the shadows, they became valuable in the wars trough the continent of Lieh, being used as formidable assassins and spies, using their abilities to control and merge with the shadows.

Sneak Attack

Beginning at 3rd level, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe's distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon.

You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll.

The amount of extra damage increases to 2d6 at 6th level, 3d6 at 11th level and 4d6 at 17th level.

Shadow Communion

Also at 3rd level, you become able to step on one shadow and exit by another. While you are in an area of dim light or darkness, you can use your bonus action to teleport to another area of dim light or darkness you can see within 20 feet.

Once you use this ability, you can't do it again until you finish a short or a long rest, unless you spend 2 ki points to do so again.

Merge With Shadows

At 6th level, you gain the ability to become one with the essence of shadows. As an action, you become a cloud of darkness, that have the same properties from the gaseous form, with the following differences:

  • It doesn't require concentration.
  • It lasts for 1 minute.
  • The area occupied by you is covered in magical darkness, like the one created by the darkness spell.

You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain your uses after completing a long rest, unless you spend 3 ki points to do so again.

Shadow Strike

At 11th level, you gain the ability to strike from the shadows. When you are in an area of dim light or darkness, you can make a melee weapon attack against another creature you can see within 20 feet. You don't need advantage to benefit from sneak attack when using the shadow strike.

You can use this ability only once per turn.

Steel Will

At 17th level, you can make a devastating attack against your target. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you cause additional damage equal to your Monk level plus your Wisdom modifier.

Once you use this strike, you can't do it again until you finish a long rest.
