Seiddrow[edit]

Pronounced [SEED-drō]

Physical Description[edit]

Seiddrow have dark skin like drows do. It is shiny and smooth. Their ears no longer resemble elves so obviously. It looks like a three-pointed seashell. Seiddrow are recognized mainly, one, for their dark skin and, two, for their white eyes. Their eyes have no pupils or markings. Their hair is also often white or silver. Seiddrow physique is like that of a runner's. They have little fat and lots of lithe muscle. Reminiscent of their siren heritage is a small bit of scaly plumage that grows off their shoulder blades on their back, as well as scales on their lower half. They do have legs though, no tail. They are careful to keep these particular features hidden lest they be discovered and ridiculed for their being.

History[edit]

There lived drow who were once forced from their comfortable underground to the surface by a crusade of eladrin. These dark elves fled across the maw of the Underdark and came upon the beaches. With the eladrin fast at their heels, they tried their hand at swimming to safety, as they glimpsed an isle behind some ocean fog. The eladrin did not give chase. They sneered, as they knew this area of the sea belonged to hungry, man-eating sirens. Confident the drow would either drown or be eaten, they ceased their pursuit. The drow were not the most accustomed to swimming, and many went under. They soon heard a beautiful song and saw what looked like angels come to save them. To their horror they were being plucked like fish by sirens and flown to their isle to be dinner. When they landed, they begged for their lives and vowed to serve the sirens. The siren queen was intrigued and she allowed the drows refuge in exchanged for their undying fidelity.

Many years wore on and the sirens observed the drow. They loved watching the drow do their funny worship services to Lolth. The queen once asked if the drows would worship her instead. They seemed too scared to answer and she brushed it off as a jest. But the queen was very interested in the drows being such long-living elves. Her sirens would never outlive them, but their offspring might. So she enforced marriages between drows and her sirens. Their children were the seiddrows. People heard of these abominations and hardened their hearts against these drows which sport scales. The drows in the Underdark heard of this new race and they gnashed their teeth and cursed at their cousins for having created such dirty blood.

Society[edit]

Seiddrows inherited their drowic parents affinity for magic and their siren parents scales and beautiful singing ability. However, their appearance was a big give away about what they were. People did not like hearing about a new monster in the world. Seiddrows brave enough to leave their home isle of the sirens were met with fierce hostility and discrimination if their true nature was discovered. They could not go back to the Underdark either, for the drows there considered them tainted and dirty. They would kill seiddrows without a second thought. thus, seiddrows either take good care in concealing themselves or stay back where they came from on the isle.

The isle of sirens is the one place seiddrows truly have a home and a community. They are sheltered from sunlight by the thick enveloping fog that covers the isle. Their main patron is the siren queen, who hopes the seiddrow will foster a great force so the sirens may move beyond the isle one day onto the mainland and beyond. Seiddrows on the isle usually live with their drow parent, though their siren parent sometimes visits. Seiddrows do not fly like sirens but they are known to sometimes pirate ships that come close to the isle and eat the crew alongside the sirens. They then commandeer the vessel like pirates circling the isle, attacking whatever comes close.
