Seeker of Truth[edit]

A Seeker of Truth is someone who has dedicated his life to finding and eradicating all sources of lies, in the hope that one day, only what is true shall remain. They want to find the truth and hold it before the light for all to see, as they strongly believe the origin of all evil to be in the lies spread to hide the truth. Some seekers of truth often speak of the Truth, with a capital letter, to symbolize all that was good and pure in the multiverse before the first lie was told. Many seekers of truth engage in such a path after having suffered through the lies of others, although not all of them. Even though they can still hold their own in the field of battle, seekers of truth have sacrificed some of their martial training in order to practice some more social skills, allowing them to more easily distinguish the honest man from the worthless liar.

Like a paladin, a Seeker of Truth must remain of Lawful Good alignment. He loses all class abilities if he ever willingly commits an evil act.

Class Features[edit]

All the following are class features of the Seeker of Truth:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Seeker of Truth gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Spells: When a new Seeker of Truth level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level of Paladin. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a Paladin would have gained, except for an increased effective level of spellcasting.

Truth Seeking: A Seeker of Truth develops a sixth sense to discern when others are lying to him. Starting at 1st level, he receives a +1 competence bonus to his Sense Motive checks when they are made to oppose Bluff checks. He also has a sixth sense to discern what is truly there from what is not, so he also gains a +1 bonus to saves against illusions. The same bonus also applies to mind-affecting spells that would try to make him say or do something that isn't true (for example, a suggestion that would try to make the Seeker of Truth say that he hates the king when he, in fact, respects him a lot). Those bonuses rise to +2 at level 4, to +3 at level 7 and to +4 at level 10.

Reveal the Secrets: A Seeker of Truth knows that enemies of truth will use many tricks to cover their lies. For that reason, he has learned how to intercept messages that he would otherwise not even notice. Starting at 2nd level, a Seeker of Truth can add half his levels (rounded down) as competence bonuses to his Sense Motive checks that are made to intercept a secret message and to his Spot checks made to read lips.

Smite Liar: A Seeker of Truth has a profound motivation to punish those who contribute in the spreading of lies throughout the world. This is why, once per day starting at 2nd level, he can attempt to smite any creature that has lied to him in the past hour with one normal melee attack. He adds his charisma bonus to his attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per Seeker of Truth level. If the Seeker of Truth accidentally smites a creature that has not lied to him during the past hour, the smite has no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. The ability can be used twice per day starting at 5th level and 3 times per day starting at 8th level.

Truth Casting: A Seeker of Truth makes good usage of his spells that can help him find the truth. So much so that he has gained the aiblity to learn up to three extra spell per day. Starting at 3rd level, he can prepare the spell zone of truth once per day without counting it against the maximum number of 2nd level spells per day he can prepare. Additionally, a +2 bonus is added to the DC to resist the effect of this particular spell cast by the Seeker of Truth. Upon taking his 6th level, he can prepare the spell discern lies once per day without counting it against the maximum number of 3rd level spells per day he can prepare. Additioanlly, a +2 bonus is added to the DC to resist the effect of this particular spell cast by the Seeker of Truth. Finally, once he has reached 9th level, he gains the same benefits with the spell mark of justice, as long as the target's behavior that will activate the mark is lying.
