Saddlebag of Holding (5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Wondrous Item, uncommon

This saddlebag functions as two bags of holding latched together to look like normal saddlebags for work animals.

Curse. The curse emanates from a powder inside and around the item. Whenever the bag is used, emptied, or jostled too much, the powder disperses. The first creature to make contact with the powder is affected by a True Polymorph spell with a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw; this is subject to change at your DM's discretion. On a failed save, they are polymorphed into a pack mule carrying a saddlebag of holding, and the original bag disappears. This curse is considered permanent, and can only be removed by casting a spell such as Remove Curse. If the player succeeds on the saving throw, the cursed powder is still active and will affect the next creature that comes into contact with it. The bag can hold up to 1000 LBS of powder. If you want to randomize the initial amount of powder, use 1d10 x 100. To determine the amount of powder that is dispersed each time, roll 1d20. Any roll above a 10 causes the powder to spread, and 17-20 doubles the amount rolled. To determine the amount dispersed, roll 3d6. 1 LBS covers a 5 foot square area. Any additional spread is based off wind. Powder outside of the bags retains its magical properties for 2 days; powder that lands on the bag itself lasts for 6 days. Once the bag is emptied of its powder or the curse is lifted, then it becomes a normal bag of holding, and any powder remaining in the bags becomes a fine powdered flour.
