SRD Talk:Wings of Flying
From D&D Wiki
There seems to be a VERY big change in the price of this item from 3.0e to 3.5e, if someone could please verify the accuracy of this. I have included the 3.0e rules for this item.
"Wings of Flying: A pair of these wings might appear to be nothing more then a plain cloak of old, black cloth, or they could be as elegant as a long cape of blue feathers. When the wearer speaks the command word, the cloak turns into a pair of gigantic wings (bat of bird, 20-foot span) and empower her to fly as with a fly spell.
Caster Level 5th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Fly; Market Price: 5,500gp; Weight: 2 lb."
- Information taken from: Dungeons & Dragons, Dungeon Master's Guide, Core Rulebook #2, Page 228, Chapter 8: Magic Items, Game Edition 3.0. As published by "Wizards of the coast"
- There were lots of changes from 3.0 to 3.5. I wish that I still had a 3.0 SRD. [Edit: See http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html] I would post that stuff. (Crazy! I shouldn't say that.) Anyhow, the crazy-cheap price of flying was crazy broke. And I never use the word "crazy", so I feel comfortable understating things here. At that price, the party just buys wings for everyone and breaks the game. All outside encounters become aerial encounters, etc. In addition, you don't just fly, you fly as if you had the fly spell! Wow, was that super-powered or what?
- Note that the price was patched to 22k under 3.0.
- If I was a proper scholar, which I'm not, I'd write an analysis of 3.0->3.5 changes.--Dmilewski 07:11, 7 February 2009 (MST)
