When determining your ability scores during character creation, use the following method.

First, your ability scores all start at 10.

Second, roll a d6 six times. Depending on the result of each roll, do one of the following:

  1. Increase your Strength by 2.
  2. Increase your Dexterity by 2.
  3. Increase your Constitution by 2.
  4. Increase your Intelligence by 2.
  5. Increase your Wisdom by 2.
  6. Increase your Charisma by 2.

Third, roll a d6 two more times. This time increase the corresponding ability score by only 1 for each roll.

Finally, you can swap any two of these ability scores.

The most likely results will usually be similar to the standard array, with one or two +2 abilities, one or two +1s, and two or three +0s. Though very unlikely, it is still possible to start with a +4 or even a +5, but in this case your other ability scores will be lower to compensate.
