Reckless Strike (5e Variant Rule)
From D&D Wiki
Reckless Strike[edit]
With this variant rule, you can choose to sacrifice some of your hit points to deal extra damage on your next attack. This is a risky move that can give you an edge in combat, but also leave you vulnerable to counterattacks.
To use this rule, you must declare that you are making a reckless strike before you roll for your attack. You then reduce your current hit points by an amount depending on your level, as shown in the table below. You cannot use this rule if doing so would reduce your hit points to 0 or lower. You then roll for your attack normally, and if you hit, you add the corresponding dice to your damage roll. You can only use this rule once per turn.
Level | Hit Point Cost | Extra Damage |
---|---|---|
1-4 | 5 | 1d6 |
5-10 | 10 | 2d6 |
11-16 | 15 | 3d6 |
17-20 | 20 | 4d6 |
This rule is a supplemental variant rule, as it adds a new option to the existing combat system without changing the core mechanics.
