There are several different peoples who inhabit the continent, all vying to become the dominant species.

Humans[edit]

Humans can vary a lot depending on where they live. The people of Babel have access to technology that makes them more civilized than their cavemen neighbors, with new discoveries such as irrigation and livestock allowing them to settle down near the Gihon River.

The rest of the humans on the continent live in caves, usually being ruled over by a chieftain with absolute authority. The exception to this is the nomad clans north of Babel, who make a living riding across the plains on Epicyon, raiding and pillaging the outskirts of Babel.

Not all the sentient hominids on the continent are Homo sapiens, as they live alongside Neanderthals. Neanderthals have been completely integrated into society, living alongside both the people of Babel and the nomadic Clans. While in the wild Neanderthals have a tenuous relationship with the cavemen at best. Neanderthals are practically identical to humans except with their appearance and culture.

Saurids[edit]

Main Page - Saurids

Saurids are humanoid reptilians that take many different forms. According to their beliefs each type of saurid was created by one of their gods, as each saurid clan has its own patron deity which they worship.

There are 8 clans of saurids which all have their own unique attributes and cultures. Each clan has at least one unique racial feature from all the others.

Sobekid[edit]

The Sobekids are a crocodilian race of Saurians who worship Sobek. They are notable for interacting with humans much more than their kin. They often occupy small islands and have a very maritime culture, surviving mostly by raiding Babel’s coast and trading the riches with the other Suarids. They live very hedonistic lives, taking from others and living in luxury off the hard work of others.

Although Sobekids are hedonistic, they still have a set of rules called The Sacred Oath, which requires each Sobekid to make an oath once they reach adulthood. The oath can be anything, as long as it’s possible to uphold. Oathbreakers in Sobekid society are the untouchables of Sobekid society. Their society is rules by individual meritocratic Admirals, the way these are often chosen is by those who choose the most difficult oaths, while those who make more simple and easy to uphold oaths are given lower ranking positions.

Salamander[edit]

The Salamander clan are a very unique clan. They have the unique ability to survive in extreme heat, often living inside volcanos. Salamanders are very isolationist and technologically simple compared to their kin. They are lead by Vestal Interpreters who interpret the will of their ancestors in order to make decisions.

Salamanders rarely interact with humanity or their kin, but are known for their incredible hospitality for those who manage to survive the journey to their settlement, despite this they can also be incredibly hostile if the visitor steps out of line. They don’t have a patron deity, instead believing in ancestor worship, this fact makes them on rather bad terms with other Saurids.

Salamanders rarely ever leave the tribe, and those who do are seen as traitors, endangering the tribe by making more aware of their existence. Their appearance is summed up as a bipedal salamander.

Cecrops[edit]

Cecrops are a bit of a non-clan, in that they are the children of Saurids and humans. Most Saurids cannot reproduce with humans, making them a rarity. Their birth is often signified as a sign of bad luck in Saurid societies, and they are viewed as monsters in places like Babel.

Cecrops can vary wildly depending on which clan they were born from, often inheriting their traits. Cecrops typically have the upper body of a man, and the lower body of a saurid. They often lack a unified culture, with the exception of small Cecrops tribes living in caves. Some nomad clans accept Cecrops into their society, while others hunt them as trophies.

Quetzal[edit]

Quetzal are serpentine saurids that inhabit the jungle. They have a militaristic culture of enslaving and hunting humans for sport. They worship Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, and often wear orange gold armor decorated with colorful feathers. Unlike the other patron deities, Quetzalcoatl has a physical form, and will often take human sacrifices from the Quetzal.

They have a deadly rivalry with the Naga Clan, seeing them as abominations and seeking to exterminate them.

Naga[edit]

Naga are servants of the snake god Apep, they were once Quetzal and Cecrops born of Quetzal before they took the oath of loyalty to Apep. Naga occupy the vast deserts of the equator as traveling bands of raiders, each warband has a captain who answers directly to the will of Apep.

Tyranno[edit]

The Tyranno are large powerful humanoids who most closely resemble humans. They now live in the mountains after their invasion of Babel failed, resulting in the collapse of their society.

They are servants of Behemoth, believing their Emperor to be his physical incarnation.

Tyranno have a strict warrior culture, with the second authority to the Emperor always being his generals. In Tyranno society, everyone serves in the military until they can’t anymore, they live extremely Spartan lifestyles that make them very loyal soldiers.

The Forsaken[edit]

They were once Tyranno, until Ziz, one of the brothers of the Emperor attempted to take the throne for himself.

When he and his followers lost, they were exiled and transformed into avian creatures. Now they following their king Ziz as nomads. They are hostile towards all other races and will often pillage caveman tribes.

Dagon[edit]

Dagon are mysterious clan that can shapeshift into humans, the illusion of their humanity fades away at night. They will often hunt down other humans at night to eat them, those who survive these attacks will become Dagon themselves. Unlike other clans, Dagon have no choice but to eat human flesh.

They can be incredibly deceitful and manipulative. They often don’t get along with their kin aside from tight nit communities. When a Dagon feasts upon another Dagon they eat their soul and become a lot more powerful, however this does not happen often as this as seen as the highest crime imaginable.

They worship the Leviathan and often give him tribute, a title given to a Dagon who consumed the souls of 5000 Dagon. Because of his power and size he must remain in the sea, manipulating humanity using powerful illusions and driving them insane in their dreams until he can arise and take over the world.
