Proderes[edit]

Physical Description[edit]
The proderes race is a specie of humanoids that have somewhat elven features, combined with brutish, almost orc-like strength, put into a somewhat awkward orientation, to be frank. They have very thick forearms and ankles that fuse with their calves, making the ends of their limbs appear almost like blocks. Their heads have pointed ears and svelte bone structure with sharp angles, and their torsos are lithe in comparison to their muscular limbs. Their eyes are entirely black and shiny, like obsidian. Male proderes have slightly reddish skin, while females have purplish or bluish hued skin tones. They commonly grow hair only on their heads and between their legs. As their body shape suggests, proderes are highly physical and can lift great weights.
In proderes culture, it is considered a high honor to see the hair of another. Thus, they usually keep their hair hidden with lower body garments and various head coverings, though some proderes just shave it all. The chief of proderes is the only one allowed to show their hair, as sign of their great strength. They wear a variety of dark colored jewelry made of their favored black iron. For garments, they are known to dress light and loose, as clothes rarely last long with their tendency to roughhouse.
History[edit]
The proderes are proud descendants of supposed titans who once roamed the earth, supposedly related to those of the giant family from Annam himself. The name for the proderes race is believed to come from a word meaning "strength," but it is of disputed origin. The proderes are a mountain-dwelling bunch that practiced unique religious rituals honoring the Allfather. It is highly bound to moral coding, and much of proderes practices are considered "soft" in comparison to actual giants. Supposedly, in a series of purgation wars, the proderes were driven from their homes by storm giants. Thus, they came to live alongside others who dwelt on the grasslands and glades below. Proderes are bitter towards the "true" giants who they consider arrogant and undeserving through this history.
Society[edit]
Proderes are a people who pride themselves in their interpretation of strength. It is a glue that holds them together. Their culture is highly derivative of common giant culture, particularly the frost and storm giants. This shift away from those beginning cultures is believed to have happened after the proderes were ousted from their original home. Now living at lower altitudes, proderes have cultivated a lifestyle as hunter-gatherers, leaning more often towards hunting. They do have some domesticated animals for food, but few proderes prefer this save for when game is scarce. These lifestyles are regulated by a chief and his council, through which all proderes may participate in a Socratic manner. Some unique culture norms and societal attitudes are listed below:
- On "True" Giants
Giants are known as "arrogants" by most proderes, as sentiment towards them is poor. Some proderes who do respect or admire their strength call them "true sons," referring to their lineage from Annam. Many proderes who venture out sometimes unconsciously are drawn to conflicts involving giants. When they do, often, they will side against them. Without other exiles from the giant narrative of the family, like firbolgs, proderes are fairly friendly.
- On Servitude
The word for any form of servitude, including slavery, is "prezul." It is not related to the Giant tongue, another proof of proderes having a unique culture. The word is not only describing servants, but also the master, as anyone with servants is seen as lazy and weak. Thus, any form of servitude is rarely practiced by proderes in their communities. The only exceptions are with rogue proderes who live away from their main settlements at the foot of various mountains.
Proderes Names[edit]
While proderes claim a deviant lineage from giants, their cultural tongue is quite different in dialect, having various softer, flowing consonants in contrast to typical Giant. This carries over to their names. True giants who hear these names will often laugh because they know it to be of the "soft" proderes. Unlike many other giants, proderes names are accompanied with a tribe name, which is usually a sort of descriptor. However, this is usually kept private.
Male Names: Azam, Ishlan, Erzzun, Prethyr
Female Names: Efelia, Pozzela, Dasili, Mani
Tribe Name: Sky-wanderer, Earth-lifter, Ring-maker, Till-roller
