Power Plant[edit]

Power plants are used by rock gnome vessels to power a rock gnome helm, charge energy storage components, and to power other devices such as ornithopter wings and gnomish weapons.

Mainsprings provide 1 Power Point for 1 hour, so are most suitable for short voyages, several may be required to be useful. The mainspring can be rewound by connecting it to a larger gnome power plant for 1 hour (tinker gnomes would consider hand-winding a mainspring "too simple").

Aeolipiles provide 0.5 ½ Power point for 1 month consuming 1 cargo hold's worth of non-igniting heat sources, costing 20 gp per ton.

Coal-fired boilers provide 1 Power Point, consuming 1 cargo hold's worth of coal each month. However, it halves the longevity of the vessel's air bubble, and cannot be used in the Flow (or it will explode). Coal costs 20 gp per ton.

Solar Boilers provide 1 Power Point indefinitely, but only work within a solar system. They do not function in The Flow. In addition, each solar boiler requires a solar mirror component to function.

Perpetual motion machines provide 1 Power Point, perpetually, via a complicated array of magnetic fields, pressurized gases and self-moving wheels.

Oversized Power Plant

You cannot have an oversized power plant (just add additional power plants).

Undersized Power Plant

An undersized power plant provides 1/3 a Power Point. For coal-fired boilers, one cargo hold's worth of coal is fuel for 3 months. You cannot have an undersized aeolipile. An undersized solar boiler can be fueled by an undersized solar mirror.

Half-Sized Power Plant

A half-sized power plant provides 0.5 ½ a power point. For coal-fired boilers, one cargo hold's worth of coal is fuel for 2 months. You cannot have a half-sized aeolipile. A half-sized solar boiler can be fueled by a half-sized solar mirror.
