Potent Novice's Ring of Spellcasting (5e Equipment)

Ring, rare (Requires attunemnt by a spellcaster) A simple silver etched iron ring given to novice mages who aren't adept at higher level magics in times of war. This ring has 3 charges which are regained at dawn. While attuned to this ring you gain the following benefits: You can use the ring as a spellcasting focus for your spells. You can try to cast a cantrip that you don't know by expending a charge. The cantrip must be on the wizard spell list, and you must make a DC 10 Intelligence (Arcana) check. If the check succeeds, you cast the spell. If the check fails, so does the spell, and the action used to cast the spell is wasted. Your damaging cantrips affect even creatures that avoid the brunt of the effect. When a creature succeeds on a saving throw against your cantrip, the creature takes half the cantrip's damage (if any) but suffers no additional effect from the cantrip.
