Plague of Thorns[edit]

This disease is often found in torture chambers, should you cut yourself on a rusty blade (it's either this or tetanus). When you cut yourself on an infected instrument, you must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or contract the plague of thorns, which begins at stage 1.

Stage 1: You begin growing thorns out your body. These small thorns grant your unarmed strikes a +1 bonus to their damage rolls, but cause you to take 1d4 piercing damage at the beginning of each of your turns when you are wearing armor or tight-fitting clothing. Every 24 hours that you are afflicted with plague of thorns, you must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or progress to stage 2. If you succeed three times in a row, you are cured of the disease and the spikes shed on their own after a few hours.

Stage 2: Your oldest thorns grow larger, particularly those on your shoulders and palms, and smaller thorns continue to sprout. In addition to the effects of stage 1, you can use your hand spikes to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike, and if the attack is a critical hit the target must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or contract plague of thorns. Additionally, your hands can no longer hold anything. Every 24 hours that you are afflicted with stage 2, you must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or progress to stage 3. If you succeed three times in a row, your plague of thorns regresses to stage 1 and the larger spikes shed on their own after a few hours.

Stage 3: Your thorns outgrow your body, causing you to become restrained. After 24 hours, your larger thorns shed, and your plague of thorns regresses to stage 1.
