Rooted. The piranha plant is rooted to the ground. Its base walking speed cannot increase above 0 feet. It has advantage on all ability checks and saving throws to remain in its position. While in its position and retracted in the ground or pipe, the piranha plant is considered hidden, and those nearby must make a Wisdom (Perception) check or use their passive Perception to detect the piranha plant.

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (4d8 + 4) piercing damage.

Leaf Throw. Ranged Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, range 60/240 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) slashing damage.

BONUS ACTIONS

Retract. The piranha plant retracts into the ground or pipe if it is rooted there.

REACTIONS

Upsprout. In response to a creature going within 10 feet of the ground or pipe where the piranha plant is hiding, the piranha plant springs up. If the creature was unaware of the piranha plant's position, it is surprised and the piranha plant immediately makes a bite attack against it.

Piranha plants are carnivorous plants that hide underground or in Warp Pipes, springing up if they notice potential prey. Their gigantic maw gives them a powerful bite force, but as they are rooted to the ground, they cannot pursue anyone who notices their presence and avoid their trap. Adventurers are advised to avoid them if they notice them buried. If they need to fight one, staying at range is best, as their only ranged method of attack is a much weaker leaf shot. Bowser's Minions commonly plant them to deter intruders
