Introduction[edit]
Pelagor, the Tidal Shaper, is the primordial Titan of water and nature, a guardian of balance and the master of the tides. His vast domain encompasses the seas, rivers, and all bodies of water across the multiverse. He is revered as a benevolent force, ensuring the harmony of life sustained by water. Though serene in nature, Pelagor is not to be trifled with, for his wrath can mirror the fury of the most destructive tsunamis.
Pelagor’s primary motivation is the preservation of aquatic ecosystems and the balance between land and sea. He believes in the cyclical nature of life, where destruction paves the way for creation. While his presence is calming, his power is immense, and his will is unyielding when his sacred waters are defiled or disrupted.
Residence in the Cosmology[edit]
Pelagor resides in the Elemental Plane of Water, a realm of endless oceans, vibrant coral cities, and ancient undersea ruins. His domain, known as The Eternal Tides, is a sanctuary of perfect aquatic balance. Cascading waterfalls of starlight pour into shimmering lagoons, and currents shift in rhythmic harmony. Here, Pelagor governs the natural laws of water, ensuring its life-sustaining flow across the multiverse.
This realm is guarded by astral leviathans, creatures born from Pelagor’s essence, who patrol the endless seas and protect his sanctuaries from intruders.
Appearance and Representation[edit]
Pelagor is depicted as a towering figure of liquid starlight, his form ever-shifting like ocean waves under the moonlight. Galaxies swirl within his translucent body, and glowing runes, symbolic of his command over water, spiral across his form. His "face" is often indistinct, save for two luminous eyes that radiate the calming yet awe-inspiring energy of the tides.
In idols and artwork, Pelagor is often represented as a humanoid figure holding the Trident of the Tidal Shaper, with water spiraling upward from the trident's tips. Offerings at his shrines frequently include shells, coral, pearls, and vials of sacred seawater.
Relationship with the Pantheon[edit]
Pelagor is a unifying force within the pantheon, often acting as a mediator between Titans. He shares a close bond with Aelora, the Moonlit Guide, whose lunar light influences his tides. His partnership with Cryonos, the Frozen Sentinel, ensures the balance between icy depths and temperate waters.
However, Pelagor harbors a deep mistrust of Malvorrak, the Devourer of Light, viewing the corrupted Titan as an affront to the harmony he holds sacred. During the Great Celestial War, Pelagor fought valiantly to contain Malvorrak's destructive influence, but the betrayal left a lasting scar on his spirit.
Worship and Practices[edit]
Pelagor is revered by coastal druids, sailors, aquatic races, and those who rely on water for their livelihoods. Worshippers seek his blessing for safe voyages, bountiful fishing, and protection from storms. His clerics are known as Tidekeepers, individuals dedicated to preserving the balance of water and defending it against corruption. They often wear robes adorned with shells and pearls and carry staves or tridents as their holy symbols.
Places of worship dedicated to Pelagor are natural sanctuaries—hidden coves, coral grottos, and seaside cliffs. Rituals involve the casting of sacred water into the ocean while chanting hymns that mimic the rhythmic crash of waves. High festivals, such as the Ritual of the Tides, are celebrated during the solstices, where worshippers gather to honor Pelagor through synchronized dances and offerings.
Artifacts and Associated Lore[edit]
- Trident of the Tidal Shaper: A legendary artifact capable of commanding the tides and summoning astral water to cleanse or destroy.
- Coral Band of Balance: A magical ring that grants its wearer the ability to breathe underwater and communicate with sea creatures.
- Tidal Surge Spell: A divine invocation taught to the most devout clerics, allowing them to channel Pelagor’s essence to manipulate water.
Quest Hooks[edit]
- The Wrath of the Abyss: Strange void energies corrupt an underwater sanctuary sacred to Pelagor. The party must cleanse the site and uncover the source of the corruption.
- The Stolen Trident: The Trident of the Tidal Shaper has been stolen by pirates seeking to dominate the seas. The party must retrieve it before they unleash its destructive power.
- The Dying Current: A mysterious force disrupts the currents of the multiverse, threatening aquatic life. The party must journey to Pelagor’s realm to aid him in restoring balance.
Pelagor’s presence is a reminder of water’s dual nature: calm and nurturing yet powerful and destructive. His story is one of creation, sacrifice, and the eternal struggle to maintain harmony in a chaotic multiverse. Worshippers of Pelagor carry his teachings as a call to protect nature, embrace change, and honor the interconnectedness of all life sustained by water.
