Patch of Dust (5e Hazard)
From D&D Wiki
Patch of Dust[edit]
OMEN/SIGN: About five feet ahead, you see an unusually thick patch of dust covering the ground. EFFECT: The dust is composed of very fine particles--powder really. Disturbing the dust (poking, fanning, walking/running across) causes it to rise in a swirling cloud, obscuring all vision (like a smokescreen) for 10 feet in all directions (10-foot radius cloud) for 5 minutes, after which it settles to the ground again. Anything that breathes within the cloud must pass a DC 18 Const save of suffer intense coughing and sneezing for 3 rounds, or as long as they are in the dust cloud, whichever is longer. The sneezing and coughing causes no damage but imposes a -3 modifier on any to hit rolls made by those affected. REWARD: Any character affected by the dust realizes (no skill check required) that, if the dust is allowed to settle, enough can be carefully scraped together (and secured in an appropriate sack, flask or vial) for 4 uses [4 charges]. To use the dust, it's container (either breakable or opened) must be thrown by the user to a target location (within the user's throwing range). One use of the dust creates a 10-foot radius "smokescreen" centered on the target location for a duration of 5 minutes. Any breathing creature passing into or through the smokescreen must pass a DC 18 Const save or suffer the coughing and sneezing effects described above for 3 rounds. DM TIP: Make the Patch of Dust of sufficient size, and place it in a suitable location, such that the party would find it difficult to circumvent.
