A tiny rift appears in your hand and momentarily swallows a creature you try to touch. Make a melee spell attack against the target. On a hit, a creature takes 1d10 necrotic damage. Hit points lost to this spell's damage can be regained only through magic or a short or long rest, rather than by regeneration or any other means.
This spell's damage increases by 1d10 when you reach the 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).
