Order Battlemage[edit]

"Hope is a great thing. It just needs to be backed up by force. We are Gatheri's force."
—Kaltath Merta, Human Order Battlemage, Speech to the War Cadet in year 8PF

Gatheri is a small nation yet it has taken much of the role of defending the world on its own with its mages and powers. The backbone of the Gatheri and Order of the Magi forces is the Battlemage - when things are rough the Battlemage is there controling the field with his or her spells.

The Battlemages are the key to the War Cadet and often are stationed throughout the Great Wall, Magus, Lennon's Crossing and Tirtath.

Becoming a Order Battlemage[edit]

Wizards and Sorcerer's who are part of the Order of the Magi and are in the War Cadet often persue this prestige class for its abilities to allow quick and powerful metamagics upon the evocation spells they specilize in.

Warmages also persue this class for more metamagic capabilities, though there are not many Warmages in general.

Other classes typically have no use for Order Battlemage even if they meet the pre-requisits.

Class Features[edit]

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one Arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Order Battlemage, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Sudden Empower Evocation: (Ex): At Level 1 the Battlemage can apply the Sudden Empower feat to an Evocation spell he or she casts once per 2 class levels (minimum 1) even if he or she does not have the feat or meet the pre-requisites.

Learn Evocation Spell: (Ex): At levels 2 and 4 the Order BattleMage learns one evocation spell of a level he or she could cast from the Wizard spell list.

Sudden Maximize Evocation: (Ex): At Level 3 the Battlemage can apply the Sudden Maximize feat to an Evocation spell he or she casts once per class 2 levels (minimum 1) even if he or she does not have the feat or meet the pre-requisites.

Evocation Mastery:' (Sp): When the Battlemage reaches level 5, they select one evocation spell they know of level 3 or lower. As long as they have an unused spell slot/evocation spell memorized of that level or higher, they may cast that spell without expending a spell slot/memorization.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Order Battlemage[edit]

Combat: Blasting - your job in combat is to blast foes and to control the field if need be.

Advancement: After completing Order Battlemage other Arcane Prestige Classes or going back to your orginal class both work.

Resources: Typically as an Order Battlemage you can expect a strong support from other Order Battlemages and the Order of the Magi. You have supplies available for requestion and others will often aide you on important missions.

Order Battlemages in the World[edit]

Order Battlemages are warriors who's life and mission that puts them in military positions or missions to complete. Clearing out a den of monsters, Protecting the great wall, protecting the cities are things that they do on a day to day basis.

Many of the Order Battlemages were there during the orginal Borderlands rebellion and hence have spent nearly 20 years in a position of readyness for whenever the next fight comes.

"In most ways our ancient magics are superior, yet the Battlemages still must be paid attention to for they learn more everyday and their Order supports them sharing our ancient lore. In Battle we must take moves to remove them first..."

NPC Reactions: The reaction to Order Battlemages is quite dependant on area. Within Gatheri they are well respected and aided with most anything that can be done for they are part of the key of their protection.

Outside of Gatheri though... the Battlemages are more myth and tall tales are told. The reaction an Order Battlemage would meet in most of the other lands would be that of awe.

Order Battlemage Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge Local (Gatheri) or Knowledge (Arcana) can research Order Battlemages to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

DC Result
10 Order Battlemages are trained in Magus in the War Cadet. They are lead by Kaltath Merta. The orginal Battlemages were trained in the Borderlands by Lilum Var himself.
15 An Order Battlemage on a mission can requestion any aide necessary from the Order or Citizens for a temporary loan.
20 Order Battlemages are so trusted they are among the few with the tokens to teleport directly to and from Fort Magus.
28 Order Battlemage training is based upon several ancient texts that Lilium Var found.
