Omen (Elden Ring Supplement)
From D&D Wiki
Omen[edit]
Omen are a race of cursed individuals, who favor large and heavier weapons. Confined to the sewers under the Royal Capital, Leyndell, Omens are shunned from birth and hunted by malignant Omenkillers.
Physical Description[edit]
A forsaken Omen, born of royal lineage. [1] |
Omen take on an appearance similar to ogres, and are typically slower as a result of their large size. They are born with large, gnarled horns that sprout from their heads, although Omen born to commoners have their horns cut off at birth-causing many of them to die at a young age. Those few Omen that are born to nobility are allowed to keep their horns, however they are kept underground, hidden from "common" society. These Omen often face difficulty with their horns, sprouting wraiths that they use to their advantage in combat.
Certain Omen, most typically those of Royalty, are born with other deformities, such as tails and feathered wings. In ancient times, these traits would be considered signifiers of the divine: vestiges of the holy Crucible. Although in modern times, civilization reviles these cursed traits and deems them as impurities.
History[edit]
The Omen have always been seen as impurities as a result of their blood. The first Omenkiler ---the perfumer Rollo---was known to have wielded a giant cleaver comprised of amputated Omen horns, while also wearing a mask that reflected the evil spirits most Omen fear in their nightmares. Omenkillers who followed Rollo's footsteps have also been known to don the same attire. While other perfumers---such as Tricia---dedicated time to treating Omen, none have found a cure.
Although they have a known history of being despised, the Omen have been utilized as soldiers in some instances. These Omen were usually given colossal cleavers, which complemented their natural, brutish strength. A remnant of a deteriorative malediction, however, is placed on each of these blades to ensure that it can be easily taken away from rogue Omen.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
As a result of their maltreatment, most Omen are hostile and will attack when they spot humanoid creatures. Some Omen, however, have been recorded to have worshipped the Prince of Death, and as such wear black cloaks to commemorate his existence.
Names[edit]
Since most Omen are shunned from society from birth, they are mostly never given names. Those Omen who do take on names often take names similar to that of ogres, as a result of their lack of education.
Omen Traits[edit]
Cursed-born race shunned from society as a newborn.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1 as well. Your Intelligence maximum and score is also reduced by 2.
Age. Omen who have their horns cut off at birth typically do not live past that event. However, those who do live typically remain alive for hundreds of years.
Alignment. While most Omen typically don't have any intelligence, their alignments range typically on the severity of their treatment at birth---mostly skewing towards Evil.
Size. Omen are Large creatures that take on brutish appearances.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Shrewd Nightmares. You have nightmares of an evil spirit, one who has been haunting your dreams since birth. When a creature within your sight is wearing the Omensmirk Mask, you make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, you are frightened of that creature for 1 minute. You may remake this saving throw at the beginning of your turns, ending the condition on a success.
Heavy Hitter. Your body's size naturally gives you the innate ability to use larger weapons. When you attack with weapons that have the Heavy property, you add your proficiency bonus an additional time to its damage roll.
Tough Skin. As a result of your skin's toughness, you are able to withstand slashes from even the toughest opponents. When a creature deals Slashing damage to you, the damage you take is decreased by an amount equal to your proficiency bonus.
Crucible-Blessed. You were birthed as a result of blessing by the Crucible. Therefore, your body has innate resistances to many of its powers. As a result, you gain resistance to Holy damage.
Languages. You can understand Common, but cannot read, write or speak it.
Subrace. You must choose what type of Omen you are.
Commoner-Born[edit]
You were born from a commoner, and as such, had your horns removed since birth. Luckily for you, you have miraculously survived this event, now bearing the scars of your stunted horns across your body.
Hard to Kill. When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you may fall to 1 hit point instead. You may use this once per long rest.
Grudge. Due to your mistreatment, you have a grudge against a type of creature who particularly despised you. Choose a creature type, a size, then an aligment, whenever you deal damage or attack against creatures with the listed conditions you may add a +1 bonus.
Ferocity. The judgment you have faced since birth has given you an extreme ferocity against other creatures, and a defensive reaction to those who attack you as well. When a creature you can see misses an attack against you, you can roll a Strength saving throw as a reaction against their DC. On a success, you are able to make one Unarmed Strike against that creature.
Nobility-Born[edit]
You were born from noble-blood, and as such, have been confined to the underground. Your time spent there among other noble-born Omen has taught you more than you would have learned above the ground.
Cursed Tactics. You gain the Surge, O Flame! spell. You do not need a catalyst to cast it, instead using your innate magic through your hands. Cosmetically, it is a black flame covered in a gold outline: a remnant of the magic the wraiths of the underground have taught you.
Ferocious Horns. You have learned to utilize the unruly horns that have grown on top of your head to your advantage in combat. You can replace any of your attacks when you make the Attack action to deal piercing damage equal to 1d6+your Strength modifier Piercing damage. For every 10 ft. you move, this feature adds another 1d6 to the damage total, up to a maximum of 50 ft.
Sunlight Sensitivity. Your time in the Subterranean grounds of the world have led you to grown accustomed to the darkness, therefore granting you special sight. You gain 120 ft. of darkvision, yet when you are in direct sunlight you gain disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Royalty-Born[edit]
You were born from a royal, and as such, have grown special features due to your proximity to the Crucible. While you were still shunned and hid from society, you are different from other Omen due to the potency of your blood.
Holy Child. Your blood is comprised of the Golden Lineage, and therefore allows you to call upon its power to use to your advantage. When you make an attack or cast a spell that deals Holy damage, you may add your proficiency bonus an additional time to the damage calculation.
Mutated Omen. Your proximity to the Crucible has granted you some of its features. When you were born, you were gifted either a tail or feathered wings. If you choose tail, you have a prehensile tail that you may interact with objects with, including fine manipulations. You cannot hold a weapon or shield using your tail. You may attack with your tail as an Unarmed Strike, and its reach is 10 ft. As an action, you may also make one [Sweeping Tail] attack. If you choose wings, you gain a pair of wings that allow you to gain a flying speed equal to double your movement speed.
Restriced Access. Your birth was meant to be a secret, and to stay that way. When another creature that can recognize you (DM decision) spots you outside of your Subterranean dwelling, they are automatically hostile and will attempt to do non-lethal damage towards you in order to take you back to the place they deem you belong.
