Novakid

A Novakid or "small suns" in Primordial, are a race of humanoids that appear to be made from a liquefied starmatter that oscillates and illuminates into a sapient form of light and heat.

Physical Description

A Generic Novakid. Source

Novakids are beings of pure energy that glow with the light and color of a star, though a novakids light does not change color their brightness throughout their long lives does slowly dimming till they reach their end. While novakid are brilliant humanoid specimens they don't have any facial features and instead have a brand on their face, in the shape of a symbol. While a novakid's form moves like a flame in the wind, they are tangible, their cores surrounded by a plasma which in turn is surrounded by a flexible glass-like substance that acts as their skin making them warm to the touch but not hot enough to ignite or burn.

History

Novakids have little to no desire to record their history and their race being a rarity among any population, leads one to only speculate about their origins. There are many theories, some say that they were created as the children of a sun god, others born from the wisps of excess stardust and furthermore that they came from the heart of the Elemental Plane of Fire but were cast out by the Efreeti.

Though they are generally more intelligent and intuitive than the so-called "dim" races, their attention spans are lacking.

Society

Novakid are a generally carefree and capricious people with notoriously short memories and attention spans, they live in the moment, wandering in search of adventure or whatever, with little reflection on the past. Often living alone or small clusters that they call nebulas, novakids may venture out of their often comfortable lifestyles to seek out a mate or sate their innate curiosity. Novakids reproduce in a strange ritualistic dance where two novakids encircle each other giving off a brilliant light as both novakids put each other's cores under extreme pressure, within the center of the two novakids a new novakid is formed over the course of a day. Novakids that mate experience a weakened core for several days after the ritual, their cores only giving off about half as much light. A novakids core is an interesting item to have, on one side you hold a source of light that will take lifetimes even by elven standards before it exiguishes, on the other, you hold the corpse of a deceased creature that lived and thought as you do.

Novakid Names

Novakid Traits

Primordial humanoids of pure solar energy that function as small suns.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity, Constitution and Intelligence scores each increase by 1.
Age. A novakid lives for as long as their core burns, a heart like organ within their chest. A novakid's core will usually burn out after 1000 years.
Alignment. Novakid love freedom, simplicity, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not.
Size. Novakid range from under 5 to just over 6 feet tall and weigh hardly anything. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Elemental Nature. Your creature type is both humanoid and elemental. In addition, you don't require air, food, drink, or sleep and are immune to diseases.
Faceless. You have a perfect poker face due to the brand that exists in place of what would be a face, and the ever-moving gas that makes up your body. When a creature that is not a novakid, makes a Wisdom (Insight) check against you to read your intentions, it is made at disadvantage.
Small Sun. As a radiant ball of compressed gas and heat you have a number of benefits. You know the produce flame cantrip, Dexterity is your spellcasting ability for it, you are resistant to fire damage, the space you occupy is considered bright light, you shed dim light in a 10-foot radius and as such you have disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to Hide.
Solar Flair. As an action, you can accelerate the process of fusion within yourself, causing your soft glow to become a searing light that radiates from you. You can maintain this flair for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. During it, you shed bright sunlight in a 20-foot radius and dim sunlight for an additional 20 feet. In addition, when you use this trait you can force all creatures within 20 feet of you to make a Constitution saving throw or become blinded until your flair ends. An affected creature can repeat this saving throw if they end their turn outside of your radius, ending the effect on a success. The DC for this saving throw is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Short Term Memory. Like most novakids, you suffer from short-term memory loss. Whenever you roll an Intelligence check, roll a 1d4, on a 1 you have disadvantage on that Intelligence check.
White Dwarf. Like the celestial bodies they take after, when you die, your body gives off a final flare before it breaks down, dealing fire damage equal to your level in a 5-foot radius. Your body then implodes inwards, shrinking your Medium-sized frame into nothing but your core, as well as leaving behind the charred, crumpled remains of your brand. Your core is a Tiny luminous resilient orb, that gives off light as per your Small Sun trait and will continue to do so for the next 10,000 years. For the purpose of spells and effects that would return to you to life, this is considered your body.
Languages. You can speak, read and write, Common and Primordial.
