Nopon (Xenoblade Chronicles Supplement)
Nopon[edit]
The Nopon are a race of strange-looking, fluffy individuals that live in all the worlds of Xenoblade. They are typically traders, or even take up the skills of an artisan, but some are known to be a mix of very powerful warriors and users of Ether. Because of this, while they do look and act cute, those wise enough would know not to anger a powerful Nopon, despite their appearance.
Physical Description[edit]
While they can vary heavily in their exact size, they are typically very small, round, egg-shaped creatures covered with fur and feathers. Said fur and feathers are typically about the same color across their entire body, with only slight differences in shade and hue in certain areas. The different colors a Nopon could be represented by varies heavily, with some being blue, green, pink, yellow, etc. They have small faces compared to the rest of their body, alongside having a pair of stubby arms and legs. Alongside that, Nopon all have a pair of prehensile wing-like ears that allow them to slightly glide in the air. Nopon tend to keep their wings wrapped around their necks when they are not in use. Finally, Nopon also have very small fangs, although this is not normally noticeable.

The Nopon of the Bionis[edit]
On the Bionis, Nopon have spread out all across the dead titan, however they are mainly present within Frontier Village located in the Makana Forest. Frontier Village is built within a gargantuan tree in the middle of the vast forest, building houses and other facilities within the tree's hollow insides. At the top, there is a way to enter the Eryth Sea, which is where the legendary High Entia lives. In Frontier Village, Nopon often live laid-back lifestyles, and try to live in nature. Because of this, this has allowed them to avoid attacks by the Mechon, however in turn, they instead have to deal with the occasional attack from Telethia that enters the region.
Nopons are also very skilled artisans, making and selling a large variety of wares, which is why most Nopon become merchants and venture outside of the forest. To assist in their trading, they often tame Armu that carry their wares as they travel. They often buy goods from some locations and resell them in others, as would be expected by caravans of any species. Because of how spread out Nopon are and how often they travel, they also are a very good source of information. If a Nopon who came from Frontier Village stops all the way down at Colony 9, the locals could gain information about the current status of the other colonies and places outside of the colony. Besides trading, Nopon are also known to become researchers and venture to various parts of the Bionois and study the wildlife, minerals, or other things relating to the region they travel to.
Going back to life within Frontier Village, there is a tradition that occurs every year in Frontier Village, which is led by one randomly selected Nopon, and the Frontier Village Seer. The Seer, or Chief, serves as the village's leader, and lives near the top of the hollow tree that the village resides in. The seer, besides doing leadership, also tends to give out advice to the village's residents and give out prophecies. Every year, the seer chooses one Nopon living within Frontier Village. This Nopon then becomes known as the "Heropon" of Frontier Village, and for the next year until the next Heropon is selected, the Heropon must protect Frontier Village from any threats that may be present.
The Nopon of Mira[edit]
On planet Mira, Nopon are present on many, if not all known continents of the planet. They travel around in Nopon Caravans (or Nopon Camps depending on who you ask), living a nomadic lifestyle. There is no known settlement that was originated by the Nopon in which they have a permanent residence, however after New Los Angeles appeared on Mira, they took up residence in the city with hopes to expand their business. A notable number of Nopon Caravans are also a part of an organization known as the Nopon Commerce Guild, which is an arms manufacturer that assists the BLADE organization. Before humans were present on Mira, they originally only traded fruits and nuts. Notably, the Nopon Commerce Guild only produces weapons for people to buy, not any kind of armor. The known Nopon Caravans are the Dopang, Dorian, Drongo, and Dodonga Caravan. The Nopon Bazaar in the Commercial District of NLA functions similarly to a Nopon Caravan.
Before the arrival of humans on Mira, Nopon, alongside a few other species, were the only sentient beings on the planet. After the Ganglion, and more specifically the Prone appeared on the planet, their lives were put in serious danger, as the Prone often used the Nopon as food. Moving into the NLA was thus seen as a smart option, as it would mostly guarantee safety from any threats to the Nopon.
The Nopon that inhabit planet Mira also believe in four Divine Spirits - Napopon, Nipopon, Nupopon, and Nopopon. They are ancient and legendary beings in Nopon folklore, and are all said to be 9,999 years old, each inhabiting a different known region of planet Mira, except Primordia. They are said to have Nopon forms, but mostly fight in powerful forms resembling creatures found on planet Mira.
The Nopon of Alrest[edit]
Nopon can be found throughout the Cloud Sea's Titans, and like in other worlds, serve mostly as merchants and in other facets of commerce. They mainly inhabit one of 11 trade guilds, although outside of the setting, only 5 are ever mentioned, and the only one that the player is able to visit in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be the Argentum Trade Guild. Because of that, the campaign setting will only provide information about the Argentum Trade Guild, however you are free to fill in the dots yourself for any campaign set in Alrest. The 5 of 11 known trade guilds are: Argentum, the largest of them all, Larus, Momon, Pyrithium, the smallest of them, and Voltis, which is the second largest.
In terms of a Nopon's general life within Alrest, most of them end up becoming artisans or traders, with the ladder of the two venturing into dangerous or almost entirely unexplored areas of the world to gather materials and sell their wares. A select few Nopon are also mechanics, with an even fewer portion being so skilled that they have been able to create Artificial Blades for those who cannot resonate with a Core Crystal. This might not always be needed, though, as while their appearance is rare, Nopon are shown to be able to resonate with Core Crystals and gain blades through a more natural method.
The Nopon of Aionios[edit]
In the fused realm of Aionios, Nopon continue the tradition of serving as merchants. They often travel around the world in miniature Levnises as a part of Nopon Caravans. They are especially prominent in Colony 30, mainly due to the fact that Nopon seem to live forever within Aionios, and are outside the flow of Aionios. When pairing that with their technical aptitude, they become valuable to both Kevnes and Agnus. The Consuls do not view the Nopon as threats to the flow of Aionios due to their nature.
Multidimensional Tradition[edit]
There are some things, no matter the specific world they inhabit, that the Nopon always share. Of course, this is shown with the Nopon almost always being traders, however the degree of this trend varied heavily from setting to setting. These, however, are consistent throughout all the realms.
In terms of more basic traditions, male Nopon tend to not want to receive flowers as gifts and actively get offended if this happens, as male Nopon apparently use flowers to woo potential partners. On top of that, there aren't many known villains throughout all of the worlds that are Nopon, just due to their nature.
On the topic of nature, Nopon have a specific speech pattern that is followed no matter what world they originate from. Nopon often speak in short sentences and refer to themselves in the third person, referring to strangers in the second person as "friends". They also speak in familial terms on occasion, repeating phrases with their speech, or adding the "-pon" honorific suffix in some cases. This is especially highlighted with the Nopon on the Bionis, as they refer to the Homs, High Entia, and Telethia as "Hom-Hom", "Bird People", and "Dinobeasts" respectively. In Alrest, their speech patterns are given an origin, although it isn't known whether or not this origin is the same for other worlds. Apparently an ancient Nopon started the tradition of using "silly sounding, grammatically imprecise sentences" in order to make the Nopon seem even cuter. Before then, Nopon apparently spoke in the formal speech patterns that you would expect from other sentient species. While there isn't a known or confirmed origin for their speech patterns for the Nopon on Mira, the Nopon of the Bionis have a less trustworthy, but still plausible origin for their speech patterns. Some Nopon joke that they adopted the speech pattern from the study of the Homs language. This can be somewhat backed up through the instances of Nopon settling in non-Nopon settlements and slowly fixing their speech over time, or for those who were born into mostly non-Nopon settlements, they were taught to and always used more formal language.
Nopon Names[edit]
Nopon don't typically have family names. It is unknown as to why. If a Nopon does have a surname, assume it had acquired it from non-Nopon parents, or through marriage.
Male: Bana, Dondon, Kino, Muimui, Niranira, Riki, Samon, Soosoo, Tatazo, Tatsu, Tora
Female: Manana, Monopon, Nene
Nopon Traits[edit]
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity and Charisma increases by 1. Alternatively, choose either of those ability scores. That ability score then increases by 2, and the other does not change.
Age. Nopon age at about the same rate as Humans, however they can live upwards of 160, and rarely even 240 years old.
Alignment. Nopon tend to go towards extreme ends of the alignment chart, favoring chaos and good nature. While this does mean most Nopon are Chaotic good, this doesn't prevent Neutral or Lawful Evil Nopon character, either.
Size. Nopon are usually only a few feet yall, most times only going up to the knee height of an average human. Your size is small.
Beast Speak. Nopon possesses the innate ability to communicate with animals as if they were permanently under the effects of the Speak with Animals spell.
Good Ether Control. While not at the level of the High Entia, the Nopon are still good at manipulating the Ether around them. They learn one cantrip of their choice as long as they have one level in any class, with the spellcasting modifier being Charisma. They can use this cantrip a number of times equal to their proficiency bonus, and then regain all expended uses after a short or long rest. Alongside that, they can change their spellcasting modifier to Charisma, regardless of their spellcasting class.
In Tune with Nature. Due to the Nopon naturally being close with animals, they automatically have proficiency in the Animal Handling, Nature, or Survival skill (one of your choice).
Stubs and Wings. The Nopon have two wings that they often wrap around their neck whenever they are not in use, and function as a second pair of arms. The "arms" of a Nopon, which are stubs that can move and push things, cannot hold any object or equipment that is over the size of tiny. The wings of a Nopon do not have this problem, and can hold two-handed objects and objects bigger than the Nopon itself in one wing. The wings can also be used in another way. Whenever a Nopon is not holding any object in either of their wings, they can slowly glide to the ground. Nopon cannot elevate themselves using their wings, and instead move horizontally in any direction using a flying speed equal to their walking speed. For every 2 feet travelled in this glide, they descend 1 foot.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Nopon.
Variant: Large Nopon[edit]
Some Nopon are known to be abnormally large and at about the same size as humans. Despite that, they retain their normal features that any other Nopon would have, with some minor alterations.
Alternate Ability Score Improvement. Any points that would normally be allocated to Dexterity from a Nopon's racial ability score improvement can now contribute to either Strength or Constitution.
Alternate Size. Abnormally large Nopon like these tend to be incredibly large, their height in the same range as humans while maintaining their egg-shaped bodies. Your size is medium.
All other Nopon features work as normal.
Random Height and Weight[edit]
