Noggins[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Noggin.png
{{{3}}}

These creatures are rather odd looking, that much is certain. They seem to resemble ordinary rocks, with few stark differences; mainly the biological components that make it up. The Noggin has uncanny looking hands and feet growing out of it, which it uses to limited dexterity. A Noggin's appearance will often change based off where it has come from, as their body seems composed of the surrounding rocks in their environment. Noggins that live near volcanos are reported to look similar to that of obsidian, or having a skin that resembles the scales of a black dragon.

There have even been rumors of Noggin forming out of non-stone materials, such as metal and even large dice cubes.

History[edit]

Nobody knows where Noggin had come from, but myths about their creation are many, often talking about a god of music who had played a tune so catchy and enchanting, that nature itself came together to play along to the beat. It is this beat that the Noggins are tuned to, and can hear it when no one else can. A Noggin will often tap their hands against their head in order to play to the beat of this tune, and it's not uncommon to hear large groups of Noggin playing in sync to this special sound, deep in the caves and canyons of the world.

Society[edit]

Noggin's are surprisingly mobile given what they look like, and they are a rather far reaching race. While some prefer to stay near volcanoes, many have made their home amongst other societies. It's not uncommon to find a Noggin incorporated amongst diverse communities. Large Noggin settlements aren't uncommon, either, and in these communities they have monthly holidays where they play to the beat of the earth and form wonderful music. The Noggin race values rhythm and music above all else, it seems.

One with Nature. You are about as in tuned with nature as a Noggin can be. You are proficient in the Nature skill.
Inspirational Beat. It is said that listening to the Noggin's rhythm for extended periods of time can inspire even the most uninspired. Once per long rest, as an action, you can play a tune on your head. Pick one person that you can see and is within hearing distance. That person receives an advantage on their next roll.

Volcanic Noggin[edit]

A subgroup of Noggins who preferred the heat of volcanos above all else. Since then they have adopted a look similar to obsidian, or the scales of a dragon.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increased by 1
Volcanic Affinity. You were forged in the fires of a volcano, and everywhere you go, extreme heat gives off the feelings of home. You’re acclimated to Extreme Heat, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.
Obsidian Claws. Your hands are made of obsidian, and end in razor sharp points, perfect to defend yourself with. Your hands are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal Slashing damage equal to 1d6 + your Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
An Internal Flame. It is rumored that the final step to a Volcanic Noggin being born is to seal a small portion of lava in them, to give them the spark of life. As a bonus action, you can give off a mild glow, soaking everything in a 20 meter radius in a dim light.

Ornate Noggin[edit]

Some Noggins were not content with being mere rocks, or just looking like an average boulder. These Noggins have managed to change their bodies to rival that of intricate sculpting and architecture. These Noggins are known for their intelligence, but also their pretentiousness.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increased by 1
Made for Greatness. You have modified your body to look exactly like the great buildings of old, which required countless hours studying. Whenever you make a Intelligence (History) check related to the origin of stonework, you are considered proficient in the History skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus.
Tools of the Trade. You gain proficiency with the Mason's Tools
Masters of Disguise. Ornate Noggins will often study various materials to figure out what look they wish to copy. Because of this, they know how to disguise themselves as these materials. You gain proficiency with the disguise kit and are able to use it to blend yourself to the surrounding environment, to better fit in with nearby walls, regardless of material.
Structural Geniuses. You are considered proficient in Perception when making rolls to examine buildings for any structural damage or weak points. If you are already proficient in this skill, you add double your proficiency bonus, instead of your normal proficiency bonus.

Prismatic Noggin[edit]

Noggins who have been exposed to otherworldly magic, and instead of rocks they instead resemble strange slime-like substances in a bottle. While this has gotten them ostracized from most of the Noggin communities, they have become remarkably more agile out of the ordeal.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increased by 1
Nimble. Your new gelatinous body provides you with a type of dexterity a body of stone could never achieve. You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.
Fey Touched. Some say that the power that had transformed you so dramatically is Fey in nature, and it seems like they may be right. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Quick and Nimble. Your jelly-like appearance is a much lighter than your Noggin brethren, allowing you to move faster. Your movement speed increases by +10.
