Ninetales and alolan ninetales are very similar creatures, the biggest difference being where they were born and raised. Ninetales are creatures of fire, burning any enemy that bothers it, or just anyone who grabs their tail. They are very vengeful creatures. Alolan ninetales are similar, but if you grab their tails, you turns into a you-cicle, frozen solid. However, if you're simply lost in the snowy mountains, there may be a ninetales to guide you to where you need to go. |
Ninetales Variant (Alolan)[edit]
Alolan ninetales are similar to kantonian ninetales, but have control over ice instead of fire. Use the ninetales stat block to represent them, but instead of the normal immunity and vulnerability, the Alolan ninetales is immune to cold damage and vulnerable to fire damage and know Auran in place of Ignan. Additionally it loses the Flash Fire and Drought traits and replaces them with the Snow Cloak and Snow Warning traits below, and gains the ice beam and sheer cold attacks below in place of its flamethrower and will-o-wisp attacks.
Snow Cloak. Whenever the ninetales is subjected to cold damage, it takes no damage, and instead, its next attack deals an additional 7 (2d6) cold damage.
Snow Warning. All creatures of the Ninetales's choice within 60 feet of it take an additional 7 (2d6) damage from effects that deal cold damage (included in the effect).
Ice Beam. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 60/120 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (4d6 + 3) cold damage.
Sheer Cold (Recharge 6). The ninetales targets one creature within 60 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or it freezes. Until a creature takes an action to break the ice, the target takes 12 (1d10 + 2d6) cold damage at the start of each of its turns. While this effect persists, the target deals only half damage with weapon attacks that use Dexterity.
