Description[edit]
The Mosquito is a small, light ship resembling the insect of the same name. Generally unfit for battle, they consist of a single small deck and lower hold, usually used to house passengers and the helmsman's own quarters, as well as supplies.
Luckily, due to their small size, Mosquitos still see heavy use as landing craft and transports, even finding favor with many adventuring parties uninterested in space combat.
Ship Variants[edit]
Bloated: A Bloated Mosquito is one stripped of its helm and stuffed to the brim with explosives, then released into the path of enemy ships as a devastating weapon. It can no longer be piloted in this state, if it must be said.
Domed Deck: When crewed by Mind Flayers or other photosensitive creatures, the Mosquito is often outfitted with a semi-translucent dome covering the deck. This not only protects them from the sun's harmful rays, but also provides full cover to the area.
Gnat: A stripped-down version of the Mosquito, the Gnat has an AC of 12 but a max ability modifier of +4. Its maneuverability means that it's often used as a shuttle or escape boat in high-combat zones.
Stinger: By sacrificing the entire cargo hold, a user can mount their choice of a medium catapult, ballista, or jettison. This variant is usually seen carried by larger ships, as its lack of cargo capacity means there wouldn't be enough supplies to take the crew very far on their own.
