Morte'Mur: A black scythe roughly 7 feet tall and a nearly 5 foot blade with Archanian writing enscribed on either side: "FA LAN HEIR MAH, HEIR ZI COR (HE WHO WIELDS ME, WIELDS THE DARK) on one side, "FA LAN HEIR MAH, HEIR ZI VUS" (HE WHO WIELDS ME, WIELDS THE SOUL) on the other side. It also has four black ribbons attached to the pole, two at the end of the shaft and two behind the blade.

Morte'Mur is a very powerful scythe forged by the Shaddows several thousand years ago. They created it out of the fabled Shadowsteel that can be forged only by them. It was made as a gift for their God and Father, Corvus, The God of Chaos, Darkness, Love, and Madness. It was infused with extremely powerful magic now long lost to the peoples of this age. It is impossible to break or destroy in any way, shape or form, and contains unparalleled amounts of magical energy. It is said that Corvus copied this weapon, making a total of three, and gave them to his most devout follower and his most favored follower, making them his Champions. One scythe was returned to him before the owner's death, but the third was lost and never recovered. Many search for this fabled weapon.

  • Morte'Mur does 2d12 of melee damage.

This scythe also has a variety of effects.

  • Darkvision: This scythe grants permanent Darkvision as long as you possess it, out to 90 feet.
  • You have black runes that give of a black light and slowly move across the your body in seemingly random lines all over you, giving you -3 to Disguise and Hide checks. These runes can be read by anyone who knows the language Archanian and has +8 Knowledge Arcana. Doing so requires you to remove your clothing/armor (leaving you vulnerable, so do this in a safe place) so as to see all the runes and takes 3 hours if you do it yourself, or 1 hour if someone else does. The runes will tell you that the Deity Corvus watches over you (regardless of your religion) and he is lending you his power. It will also reveal a quest if you are a follower of Corvus that will help you unlock Morte'Mur's greatest ability, and may give clues to other artifacts related to Corvus (The quest and possibility of other artifacts is determined by the DM). Also, if you know Archanian, you can read the words on the blade and know that the scythe's name roughly translates to "All are equal when the blood runs in rivers".
  • This weapon cannot be scryed. Any and all spells and abilities that show or find items automatically fail when used on Morte'Mur. The current owner always knows where this weapon is. The owner of this weapon can't change unless the owner completely dies (if owner is revived, Morte'Mur will return to them even if a someone else claimed it) or it is given up freely (mind-altering affects don't count).

If you are a follower of Corvus, these abilities take effect:

  • Darkness Affinity: As long as you possess Morte'Mur, you gain +4 to all Move Silently checks, Attack rolls, Fortitude, Will, and Reflex checks while in dark areas.
  • The owner of the scythe also gains a Raven Familiar, which also grants +2 to all Cha checks, as well as the Raven's +3 to Appraise checks. If the character already has a familiar, this ability does not take effect.
  • You are plagued by visions of the future in your sleep (DM determines what you see). Any attempt to speak of these visions will result in you speaking gibberish. Attempting to write or draw what you saw will result in squiggles.

These are only available if you have gone on a quest for Corvus in order to unlock this scythe's strongest abilities:

  • Death Blow: You attack one enemy with all your might. The target must make a Fortitude save of 20. If successful, Death Blow becomes a normal attack, if failed, target is killed instantly and cannot be revived or stabilized. This can be used only 1 time a day.
  • Soul Shatter: You let out a cry of unnatural sound. All enemies within 90 feet must make a Will check of 25 or become panicked. Can only be used 2 times a day.
  • Godly Aura: You are enveloped in the very essence of Corvus, channeling his power through your body. You gain +10 to all Attack rolls with magic and scythes, +15 to all Reflex, Will, and Fortitude checks, and +10 to AC. This effect lasts 1 hour and can only be used once every two days. After use, you will fall unconscious for 5 hours and cannot be woken up by anything until the time is up.
