Ethereal Sight. The monstrougeist can see 90 feet into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.

Illumination. The monstrougeist sheds dim light in a 20-foot radius.

Incorporeal Movement. The monstrougeist can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It deals 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside a creature.

Magic Resistance. The monstrougeist has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Siege Monster. The monstrougeist deals double damage to objects and structures.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The monstrougeist can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage plus 14 (2d10 + 3) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 20). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the monstrougeist can't bite another target.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (4d6 + 6) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 18). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained. The monstrougeist can grapple two creatures this way; if it uses a claw to attack another creature, it drops the creature it is grappling with that claw.

Etherealness. The monstrougeist enters the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while it is in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa, yet it can't affect or be affected by anything on the other plane. It may choose to bring creatures it is grappling or has swallowed along with it, or may leave them behind.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the monstrougeist's choice that is within 120 feet of the monstrougeist and aware of it must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the monstrougeist's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Swallow. The monstrougeist makes one bite attack against a Huge or smaller creature it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target takes the bite's damage, the target is swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the creature is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the monstrougeist, and it takes 45 (13d6) acid damage at the start of each of the monstrougeist's turns.
If the monstrougeist takes 60 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the monstrougeist must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, which fall prone in a space within 10 feet of the monstrougeist. If the monstrougeist dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse by using 30 feet of movement, exiting prone.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The monstrougeist can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The monstrougeist regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Attack. The monstrougeist makes one claw attack.
Move (Costs 2 Actions). The monstrougeist moves up to half its speed or uses its Etherealness.
Chomp (Costs 2 Actions). The monstrougeist makes one bite attack or uses its Swallow.

The ghost of a long-dead predator. Easily among the largest of all known living (or once living) creatures, the monstrougeist is thought to have been a global apex predator during its original lifespan. Easygoing and fearless, the monstrougeist spends its entire existence drifting in and out of consciousness, its enormous form bobbing sleepily below the ground with only its eyestalks exposed. It seldom needs to expose more than its cranial "great appendages" and jaws to consume most meals, but enjoys circling and stalking prey for extended periods of time, displaying its dorsal spines and periodically leaping from the ground in a terrifying arc.
The approach of a monstrougeist is felt first by the unconscious. During sleep, the monster's overwhelming aura invades other creatures, flooding the minds of other sleepers with indescribable, otherworldly dreams, most ending with some abstract impression of consuming or being consumed.
