Minomaid (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Minomaids[edit]
The minomaid is the bastard child of minotaurs and merfolk. Unlike their half monstrous parents, they ended up inheriting both of their parent's human-like traits, making them appear much more innocuous, though some traits remain. They tend to live in costal towns, as they feel they have a natural home beneath the waves, although they also feel a call to explore. This dissonance tends to leave them as nomads or adventurers, or in some cases, drives them mad. Each one has a different story of how they got to where they are, and being natural storytellers, are very good at telling that story to those around them.
Physical Description[edit]
Minomaids appear as humans with some traits from their half bovine and half piscine parents. They have longer faces than most humans, reminiscent of a snout, with large nostrils. They are highly dimorphic by sex. Older minomaids grow out a pair of cow horns from their heads, though females lack this. Below the waist, their bodies are covered in scales, like that of a fish, and their feet are webbed. A pair of planar fins, which are large just vestigial, hang out from their lower abdominals, just above the hips. Minomaids usually have golden irises with a large black pupil in the middle. Females are known to sport a pair of fins out of their buttocks, while males have a bovine tail.
History[edit]
Bulls and the oceans have had a strange association since ancient times. It is believed the minomaid is a product of bovine creatures, like minotaurs, and merfolk. Supposedly, while it was a little uncommon, when merfolk encountered minotaurs at sea, whether they were either prisoners of war or shipwreck victims, merfolk did not treat them as harshly as they would other humanoids. Conversely, minotaurs who fished up merfolk by accident will usually show them deference and release them or treat them for any collateral injuries. In certain scenarios, they would then mate. The result of their union is the minomaid.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Due to the implications of their consummation, minomaids are not known to be very common. Conception is difficult. Many do not survive into full adulthood. Usually, minomaids who grow up with their aquatic parent fare better than those born to their land parent. The rarity of their birth makes them unable to have societies of their own. They largely borrow from merfolk or minotaur traditions and beliefs. The neutral natures of merfolk have tempered out the evil tendencies of the minotaur within minomaids. However, that does not stop minomaids from worshiping evil like Baphomet or pursuing less than noble endeavors and eating humans. Most minomaids live among coastal areas as minority populations among other races.
Minomaid Names[edit]
Minomaids tend to like names that weirdly sound like what a cow would be called, but with some aquatic alterations to make it more melodic, like the sweet songs of sirens and mermaids.
