Minecrafter (5e Race)
‘Hold yer goddamned line, Drizz't!’ Bruenor's voice crashed against the exquisite sleek-walled catacomb, ‘If th' Shadowsewn escapes all of Sigil's going up crap's creek fer good!’ The elf was busy, scurrying between ancient lords of undeath given form. Bronzebeard's old eyes shone to life and his grey-streaked hair shimmered with the power of Mystra's providence. The others were already engaged with the overlord's top bodyguards.
Just then from the ceiling a square hole opened, and down fell a cube... creature? The heroes, lords of undeath and even the Shadowsewn itself stopped. ‘This catacomb be surrounded by igneous rock for miles! How in the Forgefather's flames did ya ge' here!?’ the old dwarf sought. The minecrafter looked around, ate a slice of bread in three seconds, crouched at them repeatedly, then mined down through lich's floor, leaving a block of dirt in the hole.
Minecrafter[edit]
Multi-tiered pagodas of stained glass and shanty huts built on quicksand. Museums housed glowing splendor littered with forgotten crafting tables. Fortresses of red-white smoke hissing, and run-down shacks, with roofs missing. All that and more categorize minecrafters, creatures with abilities of creation only matched by their quickness to change their mind.
If not for their capriciousness, they'd be ruling the nine realms already. But instead of tools of war, they'd rather go and build a farm, organize all their belongings again, then make a picture of their good friends' crying face big enough to be inked in maps. Then organize all their belongings.
Physical Description[edit]

It is said that if one sees a minecrafter, they've seen them all. (And just as well, since one minecrafter is rarer to come by than a congregation of dragons.) All minecrafters have the same proportions, they are 6 feet tall on the dot, they have a head that's a perfect cube, squarish torso, arms and legs that shaped more like beams of wood than limbs. Their skin, or the equivalent of skin, is usually grainy to the touch, it's hard to describe how it feels, other than the unnatural nature of their angled bodies. One would think they are touching furniture.
But while their shape doesn't differ, their look certainly does. There are no known rules for how a minecrafter looks, most look like normal creatures, with two eyes, a mouth and two hands. But their skin can vary in shades from tawny to white to red, green and neon all at once. Their head may look like a flowing bucket of magma or their entire body might resemble the face of an angry orangutan. It is said that all minecrafters choose their skin (as it is called in their culture) before popping in, and they wear it for life. The way a minecrafter looks is often a reflection of their personality, whether it be serious and reasonable, taciturn, extroverted, or a chaotic force of nature, like one who's body is nothing but ink.
Popping into existence[edit]
Minecrafters do not "grow up" like most other races, they simply appear fully grown from the day they enter the Realms. Conversely, they suffer no ill-will of aging. A young minecrafter is different from an old one only by their experience, and most likely their propensity for jumping into unlit pits.
History[edit]
Not much is known of the history of the minecrafters, especially from minecrafters themselves, they are people that place little importance into lineages. They have no natural family, their birth being an unexplained arbitrary event as if they were plucked from fate's strings. They might care about their adopted family, but most spare little for their species' lineage.
Even if they have no natural written history per-se, many minecrafters have within them some sort of cultural memory that's been slowly carved into their blocky heads, each chip is an action repeated thousands of times by minecrafters before, or foolish deaths which costed years of work of their forefathers. Because of this, minecrafters, as a species, have a tendency to become more knowledgable, cunning, and defter at their craft over the long history of the world. Those of today pop in already knowing much, from the basics of the crafting table to doors and armor and even some piston machinery, and they take to it like fish to water!
From this it is theorized that the first minecrafter, of which naught is known but often it was theorized is that his name was Steve and he wore simple cyan attire, was a lost and confused sort, who took great pains in understanding even how the world worked, the basics of operating within it he took great pains to learn, and yet he is believed to have achieved great things. But whatever his fate, his actions still ring their echo as the building blocks of the base of knowledge that is first built into every minecrafter's spacious head.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Minecrafters are will to power personified, though that power is rarely something they enjoy exercising over others. To build is what they love most, and mining and crafting are their main ways of getting to that goal, thus the name that has been given to them as a species, as practical as many are. Minecrafters are generally secluded. Not to get away from society as many hermits do, but to give themselves space to express that which is in their hearts. Something they all know, instinctively, is that other creatures don't like the idea of towers hundreds of feet tall popping up over their crops.
Minecrafters rarely go into cities and more populated areas. The rigid standards of conduct usually contradict their way of life, and the amount of people in all directions can stress them out. Not to mention the buildings that all minecrafters have an innate want to expand/fix/remold/redecorate/blockify/remodel/remake.
Simple-minded[edit]
Minecrafters, generally, treat others like a nice curiosity, something to look at, talk to, maybe throw something at and hit a few times for good measure. They are very curious about what they do not know, diving into it with full force, then, depending on the minecrafter, they may seek to bond with or exploit that which they learned about to the maximum. In their interactions, they are as rigid as the blocks they build with, one can either be friend or foe, and no in-between. They would be considered easy to steal from if not for the literal weight of all of their treasure being unbearable to even giants and goliaths.
Forces Against Nature[edit]
One thing that is generally a problem with minecrafters, though, is their propensity against any sort of wildlife or fauna that they deem unfitting for their vision. Any sort of critter, creature, or even more intelligent being that exist within a minecrafter's self-titled 'land' may find themselves unceremoniously kicked out, or even slaughtered without quarter. A minecrafter's land is usually well-lit, and contains no creatures within it.
This extends even to the underground, where minecrafters will often clear all caves and creatures within them, be they ancient rock formations or greatly-wrought dungeons made by dragons, it does not matter to the minecrafter. If they want it clean they will make it so, and if they are well-prepared little stands in their way.
Minecrafter Society[edit]
In rare, incredibly rare instances, multiple minecrafters may pop in together, or even more rarely minecrafters may spot others naturally. When this happens minecrafters may create their own secluded societies, a very rare and almost unheard-of thing within most worlds, one of these is said to manifest once a century.
Artificial Societies[edit]

Minecrafter societies are as varied as their builds, each one is more different than the last. One might be an authoritarian dictatorship and the next a feudal fiefdom, followed by a barter-based economy where feats of acrobatics (sometimes called "parkour") are the fiat currency. Like in all things, minecrafters see systems of governance, art and economy to express themselves. Like they would build a great tower, they enjoy building images of societies in groups, and acting them out in real time. Once those societies have outlived their value to entertain, they are left behind, and great buildings of wonder and resources plentiful enough to make most kings' head spin are just left behind in the minecrafters' endless search for the new and exciting.
Natural Societies[edit]
But even rarer, their societies are not made to fit a mold, and simply appear in accordance with proximity to one another, when this happens their relationships will evolve in two possible ways. They will either become a fair, close-knit and utilitarian society, where fine jewels are used as the main force of an economy (which very quickly becomes hyper-inflated). Or they may decide to wage wars on each other, terrible wars which usually span miles and miles of abandoned buildings and craters, razed earth and all life extinct. The aftermaths of a war of minecrafter clans looks like a celestial event from the sky down, gashes like the heaves rained down running deep within the earth. When their spirit is focused on inflicting pain they becomse ruthless machinists of death, minecrafters. This fact, though, is usually kept a secret from the public, because as rare as they are, minecrafters are seen as a peaceful if eccentric peoples, and their nature is peaceful unless provoked.
Minecrafter Names[edit]
Minecrafters choose their own name at birth, most are mono-syllabic and not exceptional. Names are vowels for others to grab the minecrafter's attention, to them a pointing finger or tap would work just as well. They choose short and simple names, though some opt in for some more excentric options.
Male: Steve, xXSephirothXx, Minecraft, Notch, Grian, Mine, Hero-Brian, Frank.
Female: Alex, Ashley, Minecraftina, Stephanie, Craft, Tiffany XIV, Minnesota.
Minecrafter Traits[edit]
Angular folk with extreme work etiquette. Usually busy punching trees and building dirt shacks.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution, Dexterity, or Intelligence score increases by 1.
Age. Minecrafters, almost as a rule, die far before their physical age takes them. You live for 64 years, and die on the same day you were born.
Alignment. Minecrafters are most concerned with expressing their will onto the world, and don't enjoy any system that aims to hinder them, most are chaotic. As for the fight between Good and Evil, most stay ambivalent to either side and end up Neutral.
Size. Minecrafters do not vary in height or size. You are always exactly 6 feet. Your size is medium.
Speed. Besides a lack of working knees, you walk like any other creature. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Polyhedral Build. You count as two sizes larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. Alternatively, if you are playing as the minecrafter class, you gain 3 inventory slots.
Miner's Eyes. Whenever you make an Wisdom (Perception) check related to determining the location or existence of unrefined ores or jewels, you are considered proficient in the Perception skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus.
Crafter's Hands. You add half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, to any ability check made with artisan's tools that didn't include your proficiency bonus already. Additionally, crafting time for items you make is halved.
Enchanter. You can spend 8 hours and 10 gp, (or 3 sugar canes and one leather at a crafting station) to create an Enchanted Book. This book can contain one effect from the minecrafter enchanting effects or 2nd level artificer infusions lists, which you choose when starting the game. You can change your chosen effect whenever you gain a level.
Whenever you finish a long rest, you can bind the book to any nonmagical object and bestow it the effect, destroying the book in the process. You can only have one such effect active at a time, if you create a second book, the effect vanishes before you finish creating your second book.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Crafter's Cant. Crafter's Cant is a language spoken through crouching, head movements, and flailing of the right arm.

Height and Weight[edit]
All minecrafters are identical in size and weight. You are 6 feet tall, and weigh 160 pounds.
Suggested Characteristics[edit]
When creating a minecrafter character, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character. Use these tables in addition to or in place of your background's characteristics.
d6 | Building Style |
---|---|
1 | Practical. What I build is shaped by what I have on hand and what's around me. No wasted space. |
2 | Extravagant. When creating, the observer's first view is everything, it must look right or it is not right. |
3 | Slipshod. I just grab blocks and place them, the design evolves with every part I finish. |
4 | Minimalist. When everything that's unneeded is removed, all you are left with is the important. |
5 | Thematic. My torches gotta match the color of the ground, the wood gotta be local, the stone correct. |
6 | Fast. I get it done yesterday. |
7 | Secretive. There's always a hidden room in an alcove no one looks in, it's for my eyes only. |
8 | Experimental. What do you mean, making all the walls out of pistons is a bad idea? |
d8 | Personality Trait |
---|---|
1 | I personally name every tool I craft, and I mourn their loss deeply. |
2 | I always carry a full stack of dirt around. Someday I'll need it. |
3 | If I can't mine it and I can't craft it then it's not my problem. |
4 | I'll start building a house, but I'm not finishing it. |
5 | I narrate to an invisible rapt audience whenever I'm mining or crafting. |
6 | All the crafting tables and furnaces I leave everywhere? Just my signature. |
7 | Non-square shapes of buildings annoy me. The rounder they are the worse I get. |
8 | I always jump and sprint everywhere, like I'm on a sugar high. |
d6 | Ideal |
---|---|
1 | Irreverence. Castles, legacies and governments are all equally temporary. (Chaotic) |
2 | Expression. If my mind reflects the world I see, then the world shall reflect my mind. (Neutral) |
3 | Cohesion. Wood may be weak, but it is still instrumental in even the strongest tools. (Good) |
4 | Structure. Buildings are to be made even, blocks equilateral, and the world sensical. (Lawful) |
5 | Insatiability. I need and need more until I don't never need no more. Then I want more. (Evil) |
6 | ……………… … … … … … … …? (…Neutral) |
d6 | Bond |
---|---|
1 | My first crafting table is sacred, I refuse to use any other one, and I'd rather craft by hand if I'm parted. |
2 | The village I found when I first woke up is my home, and I will protect it at all costs. |
3 | I may or may not be expelled from multiple communities for breaking building decrees. |
4 | I left my only saddle on a pig, and that pig is still out there somewhere. |
5 | I may slaughter chicken for their meat, but not this one with the nametag. |
6 | It's just a dream now, but one day I will make this one build so extravagant that the world will tremble. |
d6 | Flaw |
---|---|
1 | Whenever I smell minerals I have to dig straight to them, even when I know it's a bad idea. |
2 | I hoard valuables instead of using them for fear of losing them later. |
3 | I do not care how temporary the structure is, it simply must look good for me to build it. |
4 | If I have less than I can carry I'm under-prepared, I must prepare more. However long it takes. |
5 | Doors? Why, to trigger every trap known to block-kind? I'm digging in, whether it's a cave or inn. |
6 | I don't like to waste time, if things go wrong I can just wall us in and make a base, so let's go!! |
