Miasma (5e Hazard)
From D&D Wiki
Miasma[edit]
Miasma in General[edit]
Normally, Vein Revenants need blood about once a week as to avoid mutating into the Lost. Miasma, no matter the thickness, speeds up this process in some way. Miasma typically exists in a very large area, and gets thicker towards the center of where it is being sustained. Zones of Miasma MUST be sustained by some kind of power source. This can range from a magical item, even to a powerful Vein Revenant using their own life energy to sustain it. Miasma is harmless for living creatures, but can potentially mutate undead creatures into the Lost overtime, even if they are not Vein Revenants. Creatures that die within the radius of a Miasma field with eventually turn into the Lost, depending on how thick it is.
Light Miasma[edit]
This is not too much of a threat, especially if a Vein Revenant is equipped with a functioning gas mask. If they are wearing a gas mask, Light Miasma has no effect. If they are not wearing a gas mask, they will need blood approximately every other day. Dead creatures that are left in Light Miasma will mutate into a Lost after 3 full days.
Medium Miasma[edit]
This is level of Miasma is more of an issue. Vein Revenants that are not wearing a gas mask and are in this level of Miasma, they will need blood every few hours as to avoid becoming the Lost. If they are wearing a gas mask, Medium Miasma has the same effect as Light Miasma. Dead creatures that are left in Medium Miasma will mutate into a Lost after 1 full day.
Red Mist[edit]
An environment that most Vein Revenants pray to avoid. Miasma so thick that it the appearance of a Red Mist or Fog. This level of Miasma is lethal to the Lost, so it can be used to repel them. However, if an un-corrupted Vein Revenant enters this without a gas mask, they will need a near constant intake of blood to avoid becoming one of the Lost. Even if they are wearing a gas mask, it will not help for long. Wearing one will make Red Mist have the same effects as Medium Miasma for up to 1 full day before needing a thorough cleaning. Any longer without cleaning, and the mask will stop functioning permanently. Dead creatures that are left in Red Mist will mutate into a Lost within a matter of hours.
