Work In Progress

This rule is in its early stages, and many techniques have been added, but they may be changed soon. Additionally, there are still many styles/schools to be added.

Martial Artist Styles[edit]

In the Dragon Ball universe, Ki Users tend to fall into a "mini archetyping," where they use techniques and/or follow fighting "styles" that are either based on natural instincts, culture from their races or literal Martial Arts Schools (such as Master Roshi's Turtle School or Master Shen's Crane School).

Regardless of the origin of the fighting style, each fighter tends to commonly use certain techniques (regardless of names) within their style, and with this rule, this can be brought into the characters in the setting, allowing a character to showcase their most defining fighting style.

Once a character has chosen their school, they cannot change it later (think carefully about your choice). The GM may let the characters/players to choose their school at any point during the campaign, as a reward from helping a character within said school/style. (i.e: The GM created a quest where the players must help a Master of the Turtle School. Once completed, the characters/players can choose to join the Turtle School, as the Master is now willing to pass on their teachings to the characters/players, still maintaining the limit of being from only one school and not changing it later.)

Once you have chosen your School/Style, when you reach the levels mentioned in the Martial Artist class, the listed technique will count as half the slots required for your technique limit, also some techniques can be renamed to techniques that was used or made by characters that uses said style/school, if a technique is renamed the original name will be in ( ) right after.

Some styles/schools may allow you to choose between two techniques. This is because the school/style represents two or more characters with a variety of techniques that are very similar. You must select one of the options to receive that technique with the effects of this rule. (Once chosen, it cannot be changed.)

Creating Your Own School:[edit]

A GM or player may choose not to pick one of the predefined options here and may want something more exclusively their own or that fits their character better.

To create a school, first think about the "philosophy" of the school. How does it view fighting? Is it made for killing? Does it treat enemies with respect or disdain? Does it try to help others or simply desire brute power?

Once that is defined, you should think about the fundamentals of the school/style. For example, if a school has a mentality of ending the fight quickly with powerful blows, in the "School Fundamentals" feature, it might have Full Power Blow and Laigiri. If the school focuses on being quick in combat movements and landing as many attacks as possible, its fundamentals could include Flurry of Blows and Ki-Enhanced Movement.

Once the fundamentals are defined, think of techniques that follow the logic of this foundation or that best represent the evolution of this school. For example, you could give the "Speedster" form to a school that focuses on speed, while a school focused on powerful blows might have something like "Arm Break."

Also, at lv1 as all Styles will give Fundamental Techniques, always choose two techniques, as Fundamental Techniques will count as 1/4 of a slot, needing two techniques to make half a slot. Also Techniques that are recieved by the School/Style, must be from level the character could adquire them without the School/Style feature (i.e: You could not give Eraser Cannon at lv3, as it is a Super Technique at a level a character would only have acess to Basic Techniques)

Important Note[edit]

This rule can significantly increase the complexity of a character’s sheet compared to standard characters. Therefore, it is recommended to use this rule only if all players and the GM agree and are willing to manage the additional Techniques (especially if the "More Technique Slots" rule is also used).

Keep in mind that NPC sheets do not use this rule by default and were not designed with it in mind. However, at the GM's discretion, NPCs may also gain the effects of this rule.
