Earthwalker. The maedar can only use its burrowing speed to move through stone, and it does so by phasing into the stone, leaving behind no hole or marks. If a mold earth spell or similar magic is cast on an area the maedar is occupying, it takes 4 (1d8) necrotic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. If a passwall spell, a portable hole, or similar magic is cast on an area the maedar is occupying, the maedar is killed instantly.

Slow Immunity. The maedar is immune to spells and magical effects that would reduce its movement speed, such as a slow spell.

Snake Charmer. Any snakes with an Intelligence score of 3 or lower that can see the maedar are charmed by it.

Stone Breaker. The maedar deals double damage to objects and structures made of stone.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The maedar makes two slam attacks.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage.

BONUS ACTIONS

Stone to Flesh (5/Day). Immediately after a successful slam attack against a petrified creature, the creature loses the petrified condition.
If the target is an object or structure made of stone, a 10-foot-radius sphere area of the target is transformed into inert flesh instead. If an awaken spell or similar magic is cast on this flesh, it becomes a flesh golem with a Intelligence score of 10.

Maedar are a rare male variant of medusae. They are tall, bald, chiseled humanoids covered in sprawling, swirling patterns resembling tattoos, and as such can easily blend into most humanoid societies, though their affinity for snakes and the convenience of earthwalking often betrays their monsterfolk nature, especially in underdark communities.
Typically, when a medusa mates with a human, it is a fling that produces a single egg that hatches into a single medusa. Maedar, however, devote themselves entirely to a medusa until their death, even in the presence of other maedar, and their passion results in clutches of 2d4 eggs. The vast majority of these eggs hatch into healthy human infants that instantly petrify upon seeing their mother, while 1% hatch into medusae, and another 1% hatch into maedar.
When not acting in service of their mate, maedar often survive as less-scrupulous mercenaries, having little regard for non-medusans, garnering a reputation of untrustworthiness. If a maedar's mate is slain, it will almost never find another, and will go to any lengths to avenge their love.
