Lizard kings, or queens, are a consequence of the Sarrukh-Khaasta War. They claim descent from the union of fiends and reptilian creatures like lizardfolk. The result is a powerful bond between the most powerful and horrible of both races, creating a brand new heritage. They are named so because they are usually found as rulers of their tribes, tyrants of ruthlessness and cleverness.
Play a Lizard King if you want...
- To combine the best and worst of lizardfolk and fiends;
- To be a glorious and feared leader who sticks terror in its foes;
- To be a member of a race that favors the Warlord, Ardent, Sorcerer, cleric, and Barbarian classes.
Physical Qualities[edit]
Lizard kings resemble lizardfolk. However, they have many variable fiendish traits that make them distinguishable from others. Such traits include glowing, raving eyes, horns, spikes, small bat-like wings, frills, elongated fangs, etc. They are stronger and bulkier than other reptilians which makes them far more vicious in battle. They are among the most feared of their kind.
Playing a Lizard King[edit]
Lizard kings and queens are extremely controlling. When roleplaying a lizard despot, here are a few points to consider:
Leader. These despots hate to be told what to do. They prefer to be the ones ordering around. In the same vein, they direct and lead with action and example. As seen in war, they are also the tacticians, and are very aware of the lives, trade-offs and burdens which weight on their decisions.
Pride. As a leader, lizard queens and kings are slow to admit any fault. They will die defending their pride, as defeat is too humiliating to bear, often. It is said that those who do not tame their pride will be crushed by it.
Responsibility. While some are more like cold masterminds, lizard despots are aware and very serious about their underlings. They see those they command as their trophies and prizes which reflect their own skill. A sloppy platoon is signs of a sloppy leader. Thus, lizard kings and queens usually show some interest in shaping their followers.
Lizard King Characteristics: Violent, despotic, vicious, wise, gluttonous, caring, voracious, arrogant, responsible.
Male Names: Mundimazda, Tzagor, Mazda-ec, Zlatgor, Tlaxconqua
Female Names: Ankhaloq, Adohi-itza, Chiccli, Chitep, Zlat-tlax
Lizard King Adventurers[edit]
Three sample lizard king adventurers are described below.
Tlaxcona is a lizard queen warlord seeking to carve a name out for herself. She was compared to her brothers at a young age and overlooked to be a leader. Thus, she currently travels alongside other adventurers to find opportunities to grow and prove herself to her family which she left behind.
Zamaqon is a lizard king ardent who led his previous platoon to their ends as a result of his arrogance. In his shame and denial, he fled his home and ended up destitute among cities of other races. As he comes to terms with his blunder, he may learn some humility.
Mundarzzga is a lizard king barbarian that has found his calling charging first into battle. He believes in leading by example, thus rallying his underlings by going first into the fray. His attitude is a bit pompous towards his fellow adventurers of course, but he sees himself as their keeper in the end, and he will protect them in battle.
