Lindwurm[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

While not quite as massive and impressive as their true kin, lindwurm still share most of their physical traits with their brethren. They have long snake-esc bodies, with two legs, two arms, and a pair of near vestigial wings. Thanks to their shared heritage, the color of their scales can vary wildly, if sticking to muted tones.

History[edit]

Back in the primordial youth of the dragon species and their gods, the wars between chromatic and metallic began. Not all driven from a complete racial hatred yet, many disagreed with the oncoming battles, seeking refuge away from these times of troubles. They sought to reach the depths of the outer planes, and go far enough so that the wars would not reach them.

However, in these times away from their progenitors, they grew weaker. By actively seeking to distance themselves from these warring powers, they distanced themselves from being dragons. Their bodies shrank, blood thinned, and breath weapons withered. These trials would break most mortals, but the dragons who left, now called lindwurms, were made of stronger things.

After millenia away, hiding in the deepest corners of the planar wheel, they returned to the material plane, a completely new breed of dragon.

Society[edit]

In their own times of trouble, the original lindwurms relied solely upon eachother to keep themselves alive, making them much more cooperative than their lonely cousins. In their small communities of no more than four or five, they hunt, build, and learn as one big family unit

However, this has certain caviats. Before they left, the races of man, humans, elves, dwarves, and the like, weren't truly considered people, as they were either completely undeveloped or nonexistant. After millenia alone with these beliefs, their sudden return to humans casting advanced magics and dwarves making massive citadels has proven to cause some culture shock. Most lindwurms still understand humans to be "apes with larger brains than usual", and breaking these prejudices is a rare and difficult thing for a lindwurm to do.

Lindwurm Names[edit]

Just like how they didn't differentiate between color of scales, lindwurm do not have differentiated names for gender, all sharing equally guttural pronunciations.

Names: Tahruk, Ifryth, Euvim, Brehm, Ewakha, Mahrai

Lindwurm Traits[edit]

Design Note: This race uses the Large Player Characters and Oversized variant rules.

Draconic precursors who took a much different path.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom and Charisma scores increase by 1.
Age. Thanks to the weakening of their bloodlines, the age of a lindwurm lies in a place similar to elves or dwarves, reaching maturity around 75.
Alignment. Lindwurm tend towards neutrality most of the time, representative of their dual heritage.
Size. While the body of a lindwurm averages somewhere around 10 to 18 feet long, it's hardly ever all stretched out at once. Your size is Large.
Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Dragon Blood. Your creature type is dragon, instead of humanoid. Spells and similar effect such as crown of madness that specifically target a humanoid cannot choose you as a target.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Natural Armor. While not as hardy as the scales of your true cousins, a sword still has a harder time punching through your hide. While not wearing armor, your AC is instead 12 + your Dexterity modifier. If you are armored and this would grant you a higher AC, you can use this calculation instead. You can use a shield and still benefit from this.
Tooth and Claw. Covering your body is a whole manner of natural weapons, such as your teeth, claws, and tail. When making attacks with these natural weapons, you deal 1d4 + your Strength modifier on a hit, instead of 1 bludgeoning. The type is either piercing or slashing, your choice when you make the attack.
Vestigial Wings. While you have wings, they can only support you so much. When falling, you can choose to fall at a maximum speed of 60 feet, instead of continuously accelerating.
Languages. You can read, speak, and write Common and Draconic. While it still carries over to the more modern version(if it can even be called that), the Draconic that the lindwurm speak is especially guttural and ancient, hardly changing since they left. While it can be understood by other speakers, there is occasionally some disconnect.

Racial Feats[edit]

Wing Strength[edit]

Through continuous practice and endurance training, your wings have become much stronger. You gain a flying speed of 30 feet. However, if you use this speed to fly for an entire minute, you begin falling and cannot fly again until you land.
