Kurtansi Eye (5e Equipment)

Wondrous Item (Stone), very rare (depends (see Enrootment))

This rosey-colored eyeball is the result of much experimentation that went into researching and mimicking the eye powers of the kurta. A small clutch of these eyeballs were successfully extracted from kurta and preserved with their power intact. The name "kurtansi" means "dead kurta," since the process usually killed the kurta whose eyes are extracted. As such, these objects are subjects of ire for the kurta, and they view them as obscene abominations. These magic eyes are not widely available due to their inhumane and arduous creation process. Those who procure them have the option of using them as a limited magic item or inserting them into their own body, though the latter process requires a bit of finesse and expertise in surgical procedure.

Eye Beam. The eye has 5 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to fire a powerful beam in a 5 by 120-foot line. All creatures in the line must make a DC 15 Dexterity save. This beam deals radiant damage, and its damage increases by the each additional charge above 1 that you spend, as shown on the table below. The damage of the beam on a successful save is halved.

Eye Beam Damage
Charges Spent Radiant Damage
1 2d8
2 3d8
3 4d8
4 5d8
5 6d8

If you expend the eye's last charge, it glazes over, turning dull, and then crumbles into dust.

Enrootment. As part of a surgical procedure, you can replace your own eye with the kurtansi eye. You must discuss this with your DM, as the availability of this special surgical procedure is not easily found. When you do so, you become permanently attuned to the eye. The eye now regains 1d4 charges at dawn, and does not disintegrate when all its charges have been expended.
