Magic Resistance. The Koh, The Face Stealer has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The Koh, The Face Stealer's weapon attacks are magical.

Eternal Existence. If Koh, The Face Stealer is killed by any spell not cast from an artifact or by any weapon that is not an artifact, Koh revives himself by manifesting in his lair in the Spirit World (or equivalent) after 7 days. If slain by an attack from an artifact, Koh revives himself after 1 year passes. If slain by an attack from an artifact seven times within one decade, Koh stays dead for 1d10 times 100 years. Regardless of how he dies, if Koh, The Face Stealer is slain, any faces he has stolen are returned to their owners if they are still alive.

Crawler. Koh, The Face Stealer, can move through a space as narrow as 5 feet wide without squeezing

ACTIONS

Multiattack. Koh, The Face Stealer uses his Unsettle, then makes two claw attacks. He may trade one claw attack for a Directed Unsettle.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (3d6 + 3) slashing damage.

Unsettle. Koh faces in one direction of choice, then changes his visible face in a disconcerting manner. Each creature in a 60 foot cone that can see Koh must succeed on a DC 15 wis saving throw or be frightened of Koh for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, and a creature that succeeds gains advantage on all saving throws it makes against an effect caused by Koh, The Face Stealer.

Directed Unsettle. Koh targets one creature that can see and understand him, and attempts to intimidate them with a combination of foul words and shifting faces. The target must contest its Wisdom saving throw against Koh, The Face Stealer's Charisma (Intimidation) ability check. If Koh wins, the target becomes frightened of Koh until the end of its next turn.

REACTIONS

Steal Face. Upon a creature failing a Wisdom saving throw or starting its turn while frightened within 20 feet of Koh, The Face Stealer, he may choose to move up to half his movement speed towards that creature and steal its face. A creature whose face has been stolen loses all forms of sight, gains 10 feet of blindsight, cannot speak, and has its Charisma ability score reduced to 1. Koh, The Face Stealer gains a creature's memories if he has stolen its face, and can treat himself as that creature for the purposes of fulfilling any requirements of a spell or magic item. A creature that naturally has no face cannot be affected by this. Only a wish spell or Koh, the Face Stealer may return the creature's face to it, undoing all the effects of this.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Jumpscare. Koh darts in front of an enemy's face in an attempt to startle them. Koh moves up to his movement speed towards a creature he can see, then uses his Unsettle on it alone. The creature has disadvantage on this saving throw if it is unaware of Koh's location immediately before he takes this action.

Scuttle. Koh moves into the shadows to hide. Koh moves up to his movement speed into an area of darkness and takes the hide action. If Koh is successful in his hide attempt, he becomes invisible until he takes any action, reaction, or legendary action besides Scuttle.

Koh.png

Koh, the Face Stealer, is one of the most ancient and knowledgeable spirits in all of the Spirit World. He is a malevolent entity with the body of an enormous centipede-like creature and a fleshy eyelid where a head or mouth should be. This eyelid opens and closes to reveal a face of Koh's choice, which he has doubtlessly stolen from its original owner in the past. Koh resides under an ancient tree in the Spirit World in his lair, a claustrophobic maze of roots and stones riddled with pockets of magical darkness and few light sources. His self-chosen name reflects his ability to literally steal the faces of other beings who express emotion, and later use those faces at will.

Collector of Faces. Though Koh is a fierce and powerful monster, he is fair, and those who can resist expressing themselves before him will be allowed free. Travelers and adventurers have often visited him, hoping to pry into his vast knowledge of all things, attained after a life that has lasted since the dawn of time, to further one goal or another, but many have failed to hide their emotions before him, and instead have only added to his collection.

Knowledge is Power. Such things that Koh may know which force others to come to him may include the locations of artifacts and important items to Gods or Archdukes of Hell, methods of ascending from mortal flesh to higher forms, spells and rituals of incredible power, or other secrets that can make impossible things possible. Koh will offer these secrets up freely, but almost always in long, cryptic explanations that give Koh time to unsettle, and hopefully steal the faces of, his guests.
