Kobold Lord (5e Race Variant)
From D&D Wiki
Kobold Variant[edit]
“ | A kobold lord is a kobold that has been anointed by an ancient dragon to lead that dragon's forces and to satiate their masters desire for treasure and food. | ” |
—Unknown |
A kobold lord stands taller than the average kobold at a staggering 6 feet tall, a result of the magics cast upon them to turn them into a lord. Kobold lords generally have more dragon-like appearances than normal kobolds, with strong, sturdy bones, a long, prehensile tail, thicker brows and longer horns, harder scales, a more reptilian face, and, most notably, wings. Kobold lords are usually made from the strongest members of the kobold race, and are extremely favored by their dragonlord. Kobold lords otherwise have the same history as other kobolds, save that a magic ritual is conducted on them to change their form and mirror that of a dragon more. They are usually delineated by an address of "lord" at the end of their names.
This race variant replaces the kobold stat-block.
Kobold lords are generally stronger, more intelligent and much more resilient than their lesser kin.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. They live the same length of time as their dragonlord, so if their dragonlord were to die after creating the kobold lord, the kobold lord would immediately die as well.
Alignment. The alignment of a kobold lord matches with the alignment of their dragonlord.
Size. A kobold lord is, on average, 6 feet tall, which is more than two times the height of the normal kobold. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet. You have a flying speed of 30 feet. You cannot use this flying speed while wearing medium or heavy armor.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Claws. Your claws are sharp natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier.
Natural Armor. Due to your scales, you have a toughened defense. While unarmored, your armor class is equal to 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Dragon Blood. Because of your enhanced draconic bloodline, you have a greater constitution than your peers. You have advantage on saving throws against being paralyzed.
Tail Sweep. With a great burst of strength, you can swipe at all creatures within 5 feet of yourself using your heavy tail. As an action, you force all creatures within 5 feet of you to make a Dexterity saving throw against a DC of 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a failed save, they take 2d6 bludgeoning damage and they are knocked prone. On a success, they take half as much damage and are not knocked prone. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your tail sweep, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
