Ex-Kindness[edit]

A Kindness character who becomes evil loses all class abilities except weapon and armor proficiencies. They cannot progress further in levels as a Kindness until they atone for their actions (see the Atonement spell), returning to a good or neutral alignment.

Playing a Kindness[edit]

Kindness characters thrive in roles where they can support and heal their allies. They are most effective when they can stay close to the front lines without being directly engaged in combat. Their abilities to heal, shield, and calm make them invaluable in difficult encounters.

Religion: Kindness characters often revere deities of healing, protection, and peace. They might follow gods like Pelor, Ilmater, or Ehlonna, who embody the virtues of compassion and mercy.

Other Classes: Kindness characters work well with most other classes, especially those who benefit from their healing and protective abilities. They often form strong bonds with Paladins, Clerics, and other support classes.

Combat: In combat, a Kindness character should focus on maintaining the health and morale of their allies. They can use their abilities to heal injuries, protect vulnerable teammates, and enhance the overall effectiveness of their party.

Advancement: As a Kindness character advances, they should prioritize increasing their Wisdom and Charisma scores to maximize the effectiveness of their abilities. Feats that enhance their healing capabilities, such as "Augment Healing" or "Combat Medic," are particularly beneficial.

Kindness in the World[edit]

Kindness characters are often seen as beacons of hope and compassion in a harsh world. They might serve as healers in war-torn regions, protectors of the innocent, or mediators in conflicts.

Daily Life: A Kindness character’s daily life revolves around helping others. They might spend their days tending to the wounded, offering counsel to those in need, or teaching others the values of compassion and empathy.

Organizations: Kindness characters might be part of religious orders, healing guilds, or charitable organizations. They often find themselves in positions where they can make a significant positive impact on their communities.

NPC Reactions: NPCs typically view Kindness characters with respect and admiration. They are often sought out for their healing abilities and their wise counsel.

Kindness Lore[edit]

Characters with Knowledge (religion) or Knowledge (local) can research Kindness characters to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

DC Result
10 Kindness characters are known for their healing abilities and their compassionate nature.
15 Kindness characters can use their abilities to protect their allies and calm those around them.
20 High-level Kindness characters can create powerful auras that enhance the effectiveness of their party and shield them from harm.
30 Characters who achieve this level of success can learn important details about specific Kindness characters, their backgrounds, and notable deeds they have performed.

Kindness in the Game[edit]

Adaptation: The Kindness class can be adapted to fit various campaign settings. In a high-magic world, their abilities might be seen as divine gifts, while in a grittier, low-magic setting, they might be viewed as rare and extraordinary talents.

Encounters: When encountering a Kindness character, players should recognize their role as a supportive ally. They might be tasked with protecting a Kindness character on a dangerous journey or seeking out their help to heal a grievous wound.

Sample Encounter: Elena the Kind, Level 5 Kindness Elena is a wandering healer who travels from village to village, offering her services to those in need. Her gentle demeanor and unwavering dedication to helping others have earned her the respect and gratitude of many.

Plot Hook: The party learns of a village plagued by disease, and they seek out Elena to aid in curing the afflicted. However, they must protect her from those who wish to exploit her healing powers for their own gain.
