A pair of small, bear-trap-like jaws attached to a chain, kettenhund (literally translated as "chain dog") are popular among bounty hunters who need to take their target in regardless of their condition.

On successful hit with a kettenhund, you may make attempt to grapple the target as part of the attack. While grappled in this way, the target remains grappled while they are within 40 ft. of you while you are wielding the kettenhund, they may attempt to escape the grapple as a bonus action, and they take 1d4 piercing damage or move 5 ft. closer to you on a failed attempt to escape the grapple.

As an action or bonus action while grappling a creature with a kettenhund, you may force them to succeed a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check or take 1d4 piercing damage or move 5 ft. closer to you.
