Dense. Once the jiao stops swimming, it sinks in water. It ignores the extra movement cost for moving through water while walking.

Hold Breath. The jiao can hold its breath for 30 minutes.

Keen Sight. The jiao has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Mud Strider. The jiao ignores difficult terrain imposed by swampy environments.

Swamp Camouflage. The jiao has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in swampy terrain.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The jiao makes two claw attacks and one bite attack. It may trade the claw attacks for a tail attack but cannot use it and the bite against the same target.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it must succeed a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If it is a Small or smaller creature, it also is pushed back 10 ft on a failed save.

Thought to be what the basal spirit drakes looked like, the jiao (Dracospiritus (“Dragon spirit”) jiao (“Elder lizard”)) is an icon of the Seridic Wetlands. With a long mane of feathers that is longer and darker in males coupled with the binocular vision of adults thanks to a narrow snout and wide skull, it's not surprising how spirit drakes got their name from appearing almost like lost souls of the dead when seen by travelers under darkness to obscure their true appearance. While spirit drakes are indeed the most predatory of thescelosaurs,[1] most like the jiao are still primarily herbivores, though fish and small game can make up as much as 50% of their diets. The long manes of jiao are primarily a display structure, but they do offer some protection from the bites of megaraptorans and the claws of rival jiao. In addition to the main, jiao males and females are distiguished by size, with being around five meters and males typically six while also weighing up to a ton. They are proficient swimmers though still very dense which means when not swimming they sink, a useful trait for grazing on wetland vegetation.
