Ixac-Coyon[edit]

A creature of bone and flesh, somewhat like a raptrosian, perhaps even touched by their disgusting and gruesome bloody god... However, the ixac-coyon, or "people of many crevices," as they are named in Payit, are more primal, more earthly. They are supposedly either victims, twisted into a raging madness by the crusade of the Far Plane, or newly made foot soldiers, an additional extension of a horror that perhaps rivals the Eldrazi.

Personality[edit]

Ixac-coyon are known to be very primally attuned to the instinct of beast-like tendencies. They are of few words and rely on brute force more often than anything else. They are capable of understanding a slight range of human emotions. In some rare cases, an ixac-coyon has rescued travelers from perils of the wilds near where they dwell. These stories are far and few, however, with more ixac-coyon being furious enough to rip trespassers a new one. They are known to be territorial and brutish, attack first, don't ask later. A certain circle of scholars theorize that the ixac-coyon are sort of psychotic, as in detached somewhat from reality, in episodes of intense pain. This is believed to fuel their aggressive behaviors and drives them to behave erratically. As such, if an ixac-coyon's pain can be soothed, they are believed to become more docile, or at least less prone to violence as their go-to.

Physical Description[edit]

The ixac-coyon name means "many gaps." Their body is covered in a discontinuous material resembling hardened calcium webbing. This webbing forms various "holes" that reveal the raw, fibrous tissue making up an ixac-coyon's body. The flesh of the ixac-coyon is a mix of reds, violets, and other colors that are typically associated with flesh. Their bodies are void of hair, instead growing tendril-like extensions from various parts of their back. The head of an ixac-coyon is described to often appear like a mask because of the calcified webbing over it, creating a variety of patterns. Their faces are always unique, with some having slats, others honeycomb craters, and some with ridges and holes, or even all these combined into a bizarre face. Ixac-coyon have six eyes that peer out from these fissures in their face, glowing like magenta lights in darkness. Their mouths are fanged and often hidden. When opened, many say it is a horrific sight to behold because of how gory it can appear. The rest of their body appears like a humanoid body twisted inside out, with pulsating veins and flesh encased under the hardened calcium webbing. They often have claws and mimicry of skeletal structures on their bodies, making them appear like they have bones jutting out from various parts of their body. The fissures that occur on their heads are also present in other parts of their body. Usually, ixac-coyon are pretty muscular, on average, though some are leaner.

Relations[edit]

Their easily irritable nature makes ixac-coyon incredible volatile and unfriendly, if not undesirable, as neighbors. Most of them live in isolation within mountainous or rocky regions other races might avoid. They have few interactions save with other shady or less-than-friendly creatures like orcs and giants. It is thus extremely difficult to gain the trust of an ixac-coyon. Many times, some experience extreme feelings of loneliness. Some of these spells are actually moments of clarity from the maddening pain of their existence. They are capable of sympathizing, strangely, with the races of duergar, derro, and quaggoths. It is believed that they do live in proximity to vents that lead into the Underdark, allowing them contact with such races. They also are said to share an unspoken link with these outsiders and abused outcasts. According to certain accounts, ixac-coyon also have decent relations with races of myconids. The fungal race is believed to grow certain spores that can calm and soothe an ixac-coyon.

Alignment[edit]

Due to their fractured minds, ixac-coyon are always chaotic. They are prone to bipolar fits of rage and long bouts of agitation during which they are best left alone. Because their actions are often driven by pain and rage more than anything like morality or self-interest, they can be interpreted as neutral, somewhat. Some say that ixac-coyon don't really know how to handle their emotions and so lash out because that is all they think they can do. That being said, it is not impossible to teach them good and evil, or diplomacy and manipulation. However, they should never be the go-tos for delicate situations, as they will always have some kind of rough edge.

Lands[edit]

Due to their mental states and appearances, ixac-coyon are either hermits by choice or driven to live secluded lives in places away from prying eyes or public view. As previously mentioned, their name comes from the Payit tongue. This is because they are known to have been first seen in the lands in and around Maztica. In Faerun, they were seen to have popped up in the Underdark, specifically under the Amn region. It is suspected that a portal to Maztica might have brought them there; the same one that teleported a host of tlincalli to Oaxatupa. Ixac-coyon inhabit lands that tend to be harsh and mountainous, because they tend to be secluded. In these mountains, ixac-coyon dwell in the caves ad dark tunnels.

Religion[edit]

The ixac-coyon have been unwillingly tethered to the grotesque beliefs of the raptrosians through their creation and influences in origin. As such, they are somewhat aware of the blood and flesh plane, though not in a pleasant way. Most ixac-coyon are not fanatical worshippers like raptrosians. In fact, they recoil at the grotesque faith. Due to the prevalence of the madness in their minds, ixac-coyon are prone to despair that no divine force can help them. As such, they tend to avoid religion and even will regard clerics with intense suspicion and derision. Once upon a time, they might have wished for divine retribution upon the raptrosians and their horrid faith. Now, it is unclear if that wish will ever be heard by anyone.

Language[edit]

Ixac-Coyon, due to the influence of their creation, have some ability to understand simple written Aklo, a language often used by elder evils. This raises the question and credence of exactly what mad creature the raptrosians hail as their god. Unlike raptrosians, ixac-coyon cannot speak in Deep Speech, though they are able to receive messages in that language. They also lack the incredible ability to learn language on the fly. The hermitic nature also renders ixac-coyon vulnerable to losing language due to unuse. Generally, ixac-coyon know a language from before their transformation, usually Common. However, their ability to speak, read, and write it has become impaired.

Names[edit]

In general, ixac-coyon are very simplistic with names. They are hermitic, after all, and avoid social interaction. So, names are not very useful to them. Ixac-coyon often suffer from memory loss concerning their original selves. Their old names are usually lost or distorted. They can try to hold onto the shards of their former selves and would therefore use names that remind them of who they were. Otherwise, they might just use descriptors in Aklo to give themselves new names. These names will usually not be gendered.
