Hybrid Quadruped-Biped (3.5e Variant Rule)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Character can both move on 2 and 4 legs when needed. If character is standing on 2 limbs, he counts as Biped; leftover legs count as arms (whether they are articulated enough to do things Humanoids can do with their arms is another question). If character is standing on 4 limbs, he counts as Quadruped; if you have not enough legs, you can use arms instead. Changing stance is considered a move action, as if standing up from being Prone. Carrying Capacity is also influenced by this. If spotted in "incorrect" walking mode, others may react to your manners as wrong and strange - especially if they're of same

  • Example: Bronze Dragon Wyrmling of particularly strange education and parenting can switching stances. In quadruped form, he can carry 150 lb as heavy load, and all legs are used for walking. In biped form, he is capable of walking on 2 legs (like humanoid), but prefers to walk using 2 legs and tail (somewhat like kangaroo, except moving via steps or conventional running instead of jumps), temporarily switching from tripedal to bipedal stance only if he needs to do something with his tail (e.g. tail slap); he can carry 112.5 lb, and his forelegs are used as arms capable of all usual arm manipulations.
  • Example: Strength 14 Medium Humanoid capable of switching stances. In bipedal form, he carries 175 lb. In quadruped form, he 262.5 lb; he runs on all fours an, but can't use arms to hold things. So, he only switches to quadruped form if he needs to haul something big.
