History of the Y'alatharan Royal Families (Beachblush Setting)
A Fractured Continent[edit]
When Y'alathar was first populated by survivors of the War of the Gods, it was split into different countries, and leaders of different races found themselves taking charge of different regions. The North was home to the Dragonborn, below that, the Kingdom of the Dwarves, the center of the country was home to the humans and the Djinn who ruled together, and the South was the territory of the Elven Empire.
The Dragonborn[edit]
The Dragonborn resided in the northernmost point of the country and referred to their homeland as Glau Thad, not much information about Glau Thad has survived the millennia since its fall, but what few surviving documents have been found tell of a great city within the heart of a volcano long frozen over that provided heat and life to the people of the country. The capital city of Glau Thad, Sethoala, and its Fiery Mountain, the Peak of Kaz Murg are long lost under the crushing weight of the ice and snow that took over the land, but many explorers still believe that it's out there somewhere, preserved under the cold, waiting to be unearthed.
Most of the Monarchs of Glau Thad are unknown, but a few names have survived: The First Queen of the Land, who founded the country was Queen Mizim, Protector of the Sky, she ruled for 56 years until her death. A few hundred years later, Monarch Viarlientai, The Youngling was said to have had a strong reign, though its exact length is unknown. The final ruler of Glau Thad was King Yndrig, Lost Champion of the White who kept his country alive for 100 years after the Slow Kill, a spell of unparalleled scale which entirely froze over the mountain range that the Dragonborn called home, eventually turning it into the Impossible Range. Legends say that King Yndrig kept himself alive by pure willpower for his people.
After King Yndrig died, the Dwarves, Humans and Genies moved in to take their land and finish the job, and were met with the resistance of one final city Sethoala, kept warm by the heat of the volcano. Located in what is now known as the Impossible Range, the Dwarves, Humans, and Genies laid out an assault on Sethoala that would last fourty-two years, but would ultimately result in both the attacking force being lost to the weather, as even the fire powers of the Efreeti were not powerful enough to provide heat enough in an increasingly worse environment. The War of Lost Sons officially ended after three-hundred thirty-one years.
The Dwarves[edit]
The Dwarves fought hard for their place in Y'alathar, they desired it because of it's mountainous coast which was rich in both Mithril and Jaskiynese, two highly durable metals that the Dwarves used for smithing. Through tunneling under the boarders of the country from the ocean, the Dwarves mined a small amount of Jaskiynese and used it to fashion themselves both highly durable weapons, as well as a drill that could quickly mine more for them under the noses of the Dragonborn and the Humans. Jaskiynese is prized for it's instability, namely that the faster it's being moved, the heavier and harder it becomes. This meant that weapons could be easily stowed while travelling but be doubly as effective during combat, it goes without saying though, that Jaskiynese weapons require a great deal of skill to use.
Once the Dwarves had gained enough material to openly fight for the land they so desperately worked for, they applied strategic pressure to both the Dragonborn city of Das'tikor, and the Human city of Edrad. While they were able to take over the cities and surrounding towns with minimal effort in one night, later called the Siege of Burning Plains, their acts initiated a war that would come to last nearly a full Dwarven generation, and would be known as the War of Lost Sons, as the Dwarves stood against an attack on both sides of their territory. One act of the Dwarves' conquest was a great dividing wall that separated the Dwarven and Dragonborn kingdoms. Because of Mithril supports layered throughout the inside of the wall, it still stands today, and acts as the boarder between the Docacean and Varedian districts, now known as the Wall of the Ancients, it's original name has been lost to the passage of time.
The Humans and the Genies[edit]
Though by themselves they were weaker than some of their neighbours in the new country, the humans were lucky in that they had settled on a swath of land that was highly populated with abandoned Genie vessels, containers used by the Qu'Raavi to increase their magical powers, abandoned after they figured out their own methods of arcana. The humans didn't originally know what to make of these vessels, and for many years, the humans and genies had a tense relationship, whereby genie release was strictly controlled to prevent possible damages, and the few that were released unofficially were often done so by gangs, who worked with the genies to conquer huge areas of the humans' territory. When the War of Lost Sons broke out, the human empire, already stretched thin from trying to combat roving gangs, nearly suffered complete defeat. The human kingdom was in disarray, as the Emperor of the time, Emperor Dharma was unable to gain any ground, and whose territory was slowly shrinking. By the time of his daughter, Empress Lü Al-Yassin, the royal family were royal in name only, and had only a small amount of land in the southwest of the human territory. Empress Lü, later known as the Crimson Fox, for her brutal attacks and strategic genius, was the first to make a pact with a genie, an Efreet. In exchange for the Efreet's help in reclaiming the land that her father had lost, the Efreet would go completely free. Word of this pact spread like wildfire, and within a few years, the Empress had an army of Genies at her beck and call known as the Division of the Fox, the genie army went on to reclaim all of the human territory with Empress Lü commanding as many battles as she could in person. Once the Empire's land had been reclaimed, The Empress bid that all genies be released from their vessels if they wish to be, and made into full citizens of the empire. Thus, the humans' empire became the empire of the humans and the genies.
The largest turning point in the War of Lost Suns was when the human-genie empire and the Dwarven kingdom came together. The dwarven king, Rassamri Hornbrand knew that they couldn't continue a war on two fronts, so in exchange for human access to the Mithril and Jaskiynese, the human and dwarf territories ceased their hostilities and worked together against the dragonborn. It was Empress Lü's daughter, Empress Thiri Al-Yassin, who would have the idea for the Slow Kill, a spell that was designed not to kill soldiers, but land. A plan to freeze over the entire, already frigid, dragonborn kingdom was put into place, and great mages both human and dwarf, as well as a conclave of Djinn, or air genies, spent the next seven years creating a spell that could alter the air currents of the world to freeze it, this group, the Knife of Thiri, would put their plan into effect without any of the dragonborn even realizing. The only telltale sign of a change was the rapidly decreasing temperature of Glau Thad. Some would go on to say that the spell was too effective, as the land is still inhospitable today, but it accomplished the goals of the kingdoms, and the two countries had prosperous relations for hundreds of years to come.
